SUMMARY: Works with the Pharmacy Technicians to make sure medication is dispensed per protocols, educates patients on medication, and indigent program rebates along with third party insurance completed correctly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Screens, checks and fills prescriptions, including the counseling of each patient.
  2. Responsible for dispensing, record-keeping and reports.
  3. Works with the Director of Pharmacy Services in the training and education of pharmacy students.
  4. Maintains current knowledge of drug therapy.
  5. Consults with physicians on patient medical history.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  BS in Pharmacy, two years experience as pharmacist.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to communicate effectively before groups or organizations.  Ability to communicate in Spanish and English with patients and family members from various educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rates, ratios and percents.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPETENCY/SKILL REQUIREMENT:  Competency required in the areas of communication, excellent verbal and written skills. Medication theories: use, abuse, mixture of medications, age specific medications.S, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  current NC Pharmacy License

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to operate basic office equipment.  Ability to manage an office in an efficient manner.  Word processing, spreadsheet, accounting and general computer skills.   Ability to assess and visually present data.  Ability to deal effectively with stress, exercise good judgment and to work under pressure.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, walk and climb, balance on two feet, stoop, reach with arms and hands, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to kneel and crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 25+ pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental demands include the ability to learn and adapt to changes, exercise discretion and good judgment, develop options and solutions to crisis and problems, gather and analyze facts, pay close attention to detail, courteous and professional, deal with stressful situations such as emergencies and/or staff shortage, and to adhere to company policies and procedures.
