Job Title: Residential Therapist

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: $46,900+ depending upon experience and licensing status

SUMMMARY

Purpose: Epworth’s Treatment Program serves up to 29 youth, ages 11-18, who are in the foster care system. The clinical services provided by Epworth are aimed to support these youth in achieving self-sufficiency by improving overall well-being, building life skills, strengthening resiliency, and healing from the effects of past trauma. This position provides trauma-informed therapeutic services to adolescents and their families; providing individual, family, group therapy monitoring client’s therapeutic outcomes, and ensuring that therapeutic treatment approaches are embedded throughout the multi-disciplinary team’s approaches.

This position demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision and values of the agency by being accountable for providing trauma-informed services and ensuring safety to customers while utilizing interventions and supports that empower clients to achieve success and self-sufficiency. Therapists are responsible for cultivating a healthy workplace environment by leading with cultural awareness and humility, being team oriented, promoting a culture of learning and continuous quality improvement, valuing relationships with all stakeholders (clients, staff, and partners), implementing best practices, and engaging in efforts to support client and community’s evolving needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following:

Clinical Services

  • Deliver trauma informed counseling interventions to clients and their families (individual, group and family therapy).
  • Facilitate weekly therapeutic groups with Youth in conjunction with treatment goals.
  • Work closely with case manager to ensure comprehensive care with external agencies, guardians, parents, schools, funding agents and community resources.
  • Complete required documentation reports in timely manner consistent of quality standards established by funding sources, accrediting bodies and agency policy/procedures.
  • Provide crisis counseling and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Coordinate transition, discharge and aftercare plan with treatment team.
  • Participate in regular family support team meetings with other agencies involved in each client’s treatment to ensure appropriate coordination of services and treatment plans are developed and carried out.
  • Maintain updated knowledge on industry trends and best practices to ensure clinical practices are in alignment
  • Facilitate clinical team meetings and ensure that treatment approaches are appropriately documented, provide clinical insights into client’s behavior, and inform dorm behavior management plans for Youth Advisors.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures inclusive of, but not limited to, attendance, program/department specific procedures, workplace safety, code of conduct, training requirements, social media, and confidentiality.
  • Administer clinical assessments throughout treatment to monitor youth’s progress.

Continuous Quality Improvement

  • Review residential policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current practices and update as necessary.
  • Actively engage in learning sessions including sharing context for clinical outcomes, trends, and implementing action plan items.
  • Provide follow up and follow through on action items generated from learning sessions, and case record reviews as applicable

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Completed required annual trainings to satisfy regulatory requirements and maintain licensure or certification status
  • Follow agency policies and procedures
  • Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary and fast paced team

Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: Social work or Counseling interns (as applicable)

Education and/or Experience: Must hold a master’s degree in social work, counseling or related field and have a license. Will accept provisional license with appropriate experience; fully licensed is preferred. Specific training in adolescence and/or family therapy is desirable.

Knowledge of professional social work/counseling theory and therapeutic modalities, standards and techniques to implement with individuals, groups and families.

  • Experience providing individual, group, and family therapy with adolescents and families in crisis.
  • Knowledge of solution-focused systemic based treatment approaches.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of case management and sufficient knowledge of related community agencies and resources for children and families.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic criteria from DSM.
  • Ability to establish professional, supportive helping relationships with clientele.
  • Understanding of how issues of diversity, equity and inclusion impact client’s clinical context.

Language Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, public groups and/or clients.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Demonstrates high levels of responsibility and decision making ability as it relates to clinical judgment and adherence to agency policies/ procedures.

Computer Skills: E-mail, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Physical Demands: The physical requirements of this job includes: sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs on a regular basis.

Work Environment: Most of work is performed in an office location. Some evenings and weekends may be required on an as needed basis. Will need to travel into the community.

Other: Must be 21 years of age or older and possess a valid driver's license. Must have auto insurance when using own vehicle to transport clients. This employee must be able to transport clients in accordance with licensing standards.
