I. Position Title: Ball Park Maintenance WorkerII. Summary of Overall Purpose of Position: Under supervision of the Assistant Recreation Director and Ball Park Lead Worker, provides routine skilled and semi-skilled work in a variety of repair and maintenance assignments using common tools and operates equipment in connection with the skilled and semi-skilled tasks.

Ball Park Maintenance Worker I: This is an entry-level classification in the parks area. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties.

Ball Park Maintenance Worker II:

This class differs from Ball Parks Maintenance Worker I in that incumbents perform more complex parks maintenance duties including the requirement to work any shift, weekends, and holidays, to work independently, exercise judgment, and operate a full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific job assignment. The Ball Park Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel.

III. Duties
  • Perform general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, sweeping and raking.
  • Operate a variety of mowers to maintain athletic fields.
  • Mow, edge, trim and rake fields; operate riding mowers, push mowers, blowers, sweepers, trimmers, edger and weed eaters.
  • Rake, sweep, blow and pick up clippings, paper and trash from athletic fields.
  • Field maintenance will include filling infield holes, adding clay to infield when necessary and inspecting the ball fields for proper safety.
  • Prepare the fields which including dragging the infield, chalking the field according to specified dimensions, water infield, and setting bases.
  • Water, prune, weed, renovate and fertilize grass and plants.
  • Assist in setting up community services and special events.

IV. Qualifications

Experience: Ball Parks Maintenance Worker I: One year experience in the care and maintenance of parks and athletic fields preferred, but not required.

Ball Parks Maintenance Worker II: One season (six months) of previous experience operating large scale mowing equipment in parks and athletic fields.

Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Special Requirements: None

Knowledge of: Tools and equipment used in parks and grounds maintenance; safe work procedures in the operation of various tools and equipment; types and applications of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.

Ability to: Operate hand and power tools; operate mowers; and perform manual labor in all weather conditions; work harmoniously and cooperatively with other employees and the public; perform manual labor for extended periods of time; and follow prescribed safety precautions.

Skill in: Skill in the use of hand and mechanical tools and equipment and preparing softball and baseball fields.

Communication Skills: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Tool, Machine, Equipment Operation: Various power and hand tools.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk to hear. Must have the ability to lift, bend, walk and stand for extended periods of time. Required to push, pull or lift medium to heavy objects. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Regular exposure to heat, humidity, cold, wind and/or rain is expected. Employee is exposed to dampness, fumes, odors, dust, dirt, chemicals, machinery with moving parts and loud noises.
