Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation is looking to hire an Oncology Social Worker to be an integral part of the interdisciplinary oncology team providing specialized services across Alaska. The Social Worker provides comprehensive support though completing psychosocial assessments, support, and advocacy for those with chronic, complex and/or life-threatening cancers. The Social Worker also provides supportive, assisting with access to care barriers, patient/family advocacy and care coordination, facilitating referrals to community providers/agencies, and engaging patients/families in emergency and advance care planning conversations.

  • Embody a Positive Approach
  • Work collaboratively with clinical staff, patient services, and billing staff to provide excellent care to our patients and their families.
  • Give an empathetic and compassionate ear to those that have recently been given a cancer diagnosis.
  • Help to navigate the financial and emotional anxiety of those patients.
  • Interact not only with our patients, but also with our clients, physicians, vendors, and other business partners.
Requirements:
  • Psychosocial Assessments
  • Educational and Emotional Support
  • Provide Community Resources
  • Patient/Family/Caregiver advocacy
  • Education and Assistance with Advanced Health Care Planning
  • Coordinate Care with the Oncology Team
  • Knowledge of Alaska and Indigenous Communities/Culture
  • Problem solving skills for those with limited access to resources in rural areas
  • Interface with local community social workers
  • Assist patients and families with applications for support services

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a Social Work Accredited Program



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Social Worker through the State of Alaska
  • Certification in Oncology Social Work (OSW-C) and/or
  • Licensed by the State of Alaska
  • Master's degree


Other Expectations/Skills:

  • Utilization and some travel around Alaska to all Oncology Clinics to include Anchorage, Soldotna/Kenai, Matanuska-Susitna valley, and Juneau. This will depend on the level of need at each clinic on a changing basis.
  • Engaging community care providers to meet patients earlier in the treatment process.
  • Address barriers to access that enable patients to receive evidenced based care in a timely manner.
