As a Navian Hawaii Cook/Housekeeper (CNA), you will guide patients and their family on their journey, delivering support with a caring heart, replacing fear with hope, helping them find the beauty and joy in every moment, and providing each person with the kindness and dignity they deserve.

Cook/Housekeeper Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares nutritional meals with information provided (e.g. consistency, cultural preferences)
  • Knowledge in preparation of specialized diets.
  • Attends continuing educational in-service training for food services preparation.
  • Assists with shopping, including but not limited to: grocery, household item and patient personal shopping, and maintains effective cost control over food and household supplies.
  • Assists with nutritional and dietary needs as requested by the RN.
  • Maintains clean home environment
  • Assists Facilities Manager in preparation for regulatory inspections in relation to kitchen environment, meal preparation and food storage
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Prepares vacant rooms to receive next patient.

Patient Care

  • Works under the direction of either the LPN or RN while working shifts at the homes or the RN Case Manager while providing care in the community.
  • Assists patients with personal hygiene, i.e., bathing, mouth care, skin care, hair care and shaving.
  • Assists patients with other ADL's, i.e., toileting, dressing, feeding.
  • Assists with ambulation and transfer activities and ROM exercises as ordered.
  • Positions for comfort.
  • Assists with use of equipment and devices.
  • Assists with nutritional and dietary needs as requested by the RN.
  • Assists in providing a safe and sanitary environment for the patient, i.e., changes bed linen when necessary, tidies room as needed, adjusting lighting and placement of objects in the room for safety and comfort.
  • Reports to the RN Case Manager/LPN any significant changes in the patient's condition or coping of the caregivers.
  • Documents all care in accordance with agency protocol.
  • Participates in Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) conferences.
  • Collaborates with the Interdisciplinary Team on an ongoing basis to help assure quality and continuity of care.
  • Travels as required for patient/family care.
  • Complies with all established agency policies and procedures, including all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Provides related in-service education for hospice staff and volunteers.
  • Supports the mission of Hospice Hawai'i and exhibits hospice philosophy in all job related roles.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager, Director of Clinical Operations or designee.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Demonstrates knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and skills that are consistent with the scope of practice for hospice and palliative CNAs
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patient/family members, the public, and representatives of other agencies and organizations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of individuals.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations in a professional manner
  • Strong customer service skills and helpful attitude
  • Ability to identify problems/issues/concerns and actively participate in resolution of problems
  • Organized, able to manage multiple tasks at a time, and prioritize tasks while maintaining flexibility
  • Familiar with concepts and practices used in a hospice setting
  • Maintains physical, social, emotional, and spiritual care of oneself

Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Current State of Hawaii certification as a home health aide or nurse's assistant.
  • One year of direct patient care experience.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
