Title: Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Superintendent

Company Details:

The client is a mineral exploration and development company based in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The company's primary focus is on the exploration and development of copper, gold, and other precious metals.


Reporting to the EHS Manager, the EHSS Superintendent works with the EHS Team to ensure compliance with environmental & safety regulations and permit conditions and oversee security associated with the Johnson Camp Mine and Gunnison Solution Mine.


Environmental Responsibilities:

  • Knowledgeable of EPA and Arizona environmental practices and regulations.

  • This position ensures that data collection, analyses, interpretation, and reporting meet the requirements and intent of the State and Federal regulatory requirements and permit conditions.

  • Work with Operations and Technical Services to identify potential permit violations and implement required mitigation actions.

  • Ensure employee understanding of and compliance with environmental requirements by conducting regular formal and informal inspections of company operations.

  • Ensure EHS Coordinator maintains compliance with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management. Ensure ADEQ required reporting is completed in a timely manner.

  • Oversee management of environmental monitoring/sampling programs.

  • Work with Technical Services to ensure all environmental data is accurately uploaded into Acquire. Develop reports to facilitate identifying trends.

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining the Environmental Management System.

  • Participate and assist in investigations regarding environmental incidents including implementation of corrective/preventive actions.

  • Provide environmental training and assistance to various employees, consultants and contractors.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Knowledgeable of federal MSHA/OSHA and state ADOSH practices and regulations.

  • Conduct formal and informal inspections of company operations to ensure compliance with ADOSH and OSHA regulations.

  • Lead and/or participate in pre-work hazard identification.

  • Lead and/or participate in Accident/Incident Investigations

  • Facilitate near miss reporting.

  • Manage safety related monitoring programs such as hearing protection, respiratory protection, etc.

  • Proficient in data management.

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining the Safety Management System, ISO 45001

  • Provide training and assistance to various employees, consultants and contractors.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Security Responsibilities:

  • Oversee security employees.

  • Work with Contract security companies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Geology or related industry discipline preferred.

  • OSHA and MSHA authorized, or ability to become so.

  • Experience in wellfields or open pit mines preferred

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interface with site personnel, regulatory agencies, governmental entities, and professional/industry associations.

  • Ability to correctly prioritize jobs and work effectively with multiple concurrent tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to effectively train and communicate environmental requirements to a diverse work force.

  • 15+ years of EHS experience in the mining industry in progressive leadership roles.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office® software (Word, Excel PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, etc.).

Additional Requirements:

  • Good verbal and writing skills including the ability to read, write and speak English.

  • Ability to effectively interact, verbally and in writing, with senior management, functional department managers, contractors, vendors, and consultants.

  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Sitting for extended periods of time

  • Constantly using dominate hand and non-dominate hand with various motions

  • Occasionally carrying 1-20 lbs. may be required

  • Occasionally lifting 1-50 lbs.

  • Job may also require driving various vehicles or equipment

  • Working around equipment and machinery

  • Walking on uneven ground

  • Exposure to extremes in temperature, humidity, and wetness
