The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications for the position of Lead Line Technician. This position supervises the assignments given by the Electric Department Utility Line Supervisor and the operations of the City owned electrical distribution system during the daily course of maintenance and new construction. Reports to the Electric Utility Line Supervisor
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist supervises department employees which involves such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, appraising employee performance, recommending promotions, discipline, and termination and salary increases.
- In the absence of the Utility Line Supervisor this position will supervises City Line Crew in the construction, maintenance and emergency repairs of all overhead and underground electrical power lines and apparatus.
- Ensures that the work of the crew is performed within the approved safety policy and that the crew members are provided with all necessary tools and equipment to perform work safely.
- Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy. Evaluates performance and makes recommendations as appropriate. Offers advice and assistance as needed to the Utility Line Supervisor.
- Assists with meetings with customers to discuss construction projects and service requests. Schedules and plans jobs and creates work orders.
Inspects all work in progress for compliance with plans, specifications, codes, regulations, department policies and procedures and standards of quality and safety. - Assists with all general clerical work as required, including but not limited to, preparing reports and records, attending meetings, entering and retrieving computer data, answering the phones, copying and filing documents, etc.
- Assists supervisor with plans, coordinates and/or conducts training.
- Receives and responds to work orders for maintenance and repair work.
- Assists crew with assigned projects.
- Ensures the availability of properly working equipment and adequate supplies, materials and tools for assigned projects, schedules vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Reviews reports and responds to problems in the field.
- Assists supervisor with and completes minor electrical maintenance on City owned buildings and structures.
- Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including customer/citizen requests, outage and faulty equipment reports and reports on dangerous situations or conditions.
- Prepares and/or generates a variety of documents including work orders, customer reports and subordinate evaluations.
- Refers to department rules and regulations, National Electric Safety Code, blue prints, site plans and equipment manuals
- Utilizes a variety of computer software to include Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and Outlook.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as line crews, customers/citizens, contractors, City departments, salesmen and suppliers.
- Operates a variety of machinery and/or equipment such as bucket trucks, trencher, plow, backhoe, boring machine, etc.
- Responsible for inventory control, making sure adequate supplies are stocked.
- Utilizes a variety of tools/sets of tools such as various hand tools, climbing tools, electrical testing equipment, etc.
- Other duties as directed.
ESSENTIAL SAFETY FUNCTIONS
It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with established policies, procedures and safe work practices. Each employee must follow safety training and instructions provided by their supervisor. Each employee must also properly wear and maintain all personal protective equipment required for their job. Finally, each employee must immediately report any unsafe work practices or unsafe conditions as well as any on-the-job injury or illnesses.
Every manager/supervisor is responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations. In addition, they are responsible for ensuring that a safe work environment is maintained, safe work practices are followed and employees are properly trained.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs any assignment or task that is deemed necessary for the City to provide continuing service or for safety and well-being to the customer/citizens and employees of the City of Georgetown.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a Technical College Diploma supplemented by a minimum of four to five years of experience in the electrical line and supervisory field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a CDL.
