This is professional legal work assisting the Assistant County Solicitor supervising the legal unit and serving the Lehigh County Office of Children & Youth Services. The individual in this position reports directly to the Assistant County Solicitor who is the supervising attorney of the legal unit and works directly with the Deputy Solicitors in said unit.

Typical Examples of Work Performed:

  • Completing Informations Custody Sharing Forms (CY 1002), following the guidelines set forth in The Child Protective Services Law (23 Pa. C.S. Chapter 63)
  • Communicating with JUdicial Hearing Officers ("JHO'S) prior to Protection From Abuse ("PFA") and Child Custody hearings any information found regarding the family that is permitted to be shared following the law and regulations within the CPSL.
  • Following up on continuing involvement by the Office of Children & Youth Services ("OCYS") with families for cases that have been continued.
  • Researching families in the State and County wide databases, CWIS, and ACYS, and provide JOH's with the information permitted in set guidelines.
  • Sending out daily, weekly, and monthly court calendars to Dependency Attorneys within The Office of Children and Youth Services, highlighting any changes from previous updates.
  • Using the CPCMS system to pull the Court Calendars that are to be sent to all attorneys.
  • Organizing and drafting subpoenas for Act 21 cases, as well as keeping the file updated on the Act 21 cases. Send out Zoom links and subpoenas to the Sexx Offender Assessment Board ("SOAB") and assigned doctors.
  • Maintaining and disseminating the Legal Unit Spreadsheet.
  • reviewing Court Orders and updating the Spreadsheet with the appropriate notations.
  • Maintaining the schedule for the yearly on-call Judge rotation for evenings and weekend emergencies.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of research methods and techniques, sources, and citations commonly employed in both the State and Federal judicial system.
  • Thorough knowledge of the terminology, procedural forms and documentary practices employed in both the State and Federal judicial systems.
  • Knowledge of the statutes, regulations and operations of the Court of Common Pleas and the United States District Court.
  • Knowledge of principles, procedures, and practices of trials, hearings, and related court activities.
  • Ability to analyze legal documents, identify pertinent issues, and summarize finding and conclusions.
  • Thorough knowledge of library science goals, objectives, principles, and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of practices, methods, and techniques commonly employed in the acquisition, cataloging, indexing and other library applications of legal books and sources.

Schedule:

May work of a maximum of 1,000 hours per rolling year.
