The Paving Equipment Shop Technician provides face-to-face customer service located on-site locations and is responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and reconditioning of paving construction equipment. Paving Equipment Repair Experience Required. Minimum 2 years of repairing paving equipment experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs repairs and troubleshooting with minimal supervision
  • Performs troubleshooting and diagnoses of equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Removes and install parts, disassembles and assembles components, and tests and adjusts assemblies
  • Repairs and/or replaces components according to CAT standards
  • Tests and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
  • Prepares and completes all job-related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete the job (work order, parts order, Vision Link, DBS, SimsSI, SIS web)
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and the vehicle in good, clean, and working order
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Complete assigned jobs and tasks to meet/exceed flat rate times and re-do metric standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of complex grade control systems, special software/hardware required for machine communication and diagnoses, intelligent compaction, machine application, asphalt densities, mat deformities, and correct machine operation procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Exceptional skills in customer service
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources
  • Operation and control skills to control operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, highly stressful, and time constraining circumstances
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of paving equipment repair experience required; three or more years preferred
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Travel:

  • Some local travel
