Job Summary:
Assist fleet personnel in maintaining the District's vehicles and equipment, including preventative maintenance, scheduled repairs, and emergency repairs. Visit vendors and pick up parts, restock parts shelves, perform inventory, general housekeeping of shop, parts and tool room, clean and organize tools. Assist the Division Supervisor and other fleet personnel in the maintenance and minor repair of grounds/facilities. Assist other mechanics with major/other repairs. Assist Division Supervisor in helping the shop be organized, safety minded and efficient in doing all tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, including oil changes, lubrication, and multi-point inspection, rotate tires, etc. on District owned vehicles. Assist in the maintenance and repair on various types of equipment ranging from small engines to heavy equipment as directed. Repair vehicles with general supervision.
- Clean and organize the shop, tools and parts room. Inventory of tools and parts, restock shelves. Wash vehicles/equipment and run parts as directed.
- Assist other divisions in necessary repairs of their equipment when needed.
- Must be able to response to emergencies as needed, including after hours. Able to work overtime if necessary.
- Various other duties as assigned.
General Qualification Requirements
Prior Work Experience: 1-2 years prior job experience preferred
Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional technical or specialized training in vehicle maintenance (including vactors), ASE (A1-A8) and metal fabrication/welding is preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, Etc.:
- Valid Utah driver's license Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement is required or ability to obtain within 90 days. Hazardous-material endorsement required or must be obtained within 90 days.
- UST AB Operator is required or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Physical Demands:

- The employee is frequently required to: sit or perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement.

- The employee must lift weight or exert force as follows:
i. Regularly: 1 to 25 pounds
ii. Frequently: 26 to 50 pounds
iii. Occasionally: 51 to 100 pounds
iv. Rarely: 101 to 150 pounds
5. Specific vision abilities include: Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less. Ability to judge distance and space relationships. Ability to distinguish colors. Ability to use peripheral vision
