Job Title: Estimator
Reports To:  Director of Preconstruction
FLSA Status: Exempt


The Estimator must have the ability to maintain existing client relations and develop new
relationships with clients, engineers, architects, and subcontractors. This position requires
excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the technical skills for accurate and
detailed estimates. The Estimator must be persuasive and effective during project interviews
and meetings. Must also be able to work well within a team centered culture.


  • Assist Estimating team in the management of multiple individual projects through the budgeting and bidding phases, to concept and final bid.
  • Review bid documents and perform quantity take-offs.
  • Review proposal specifications and architectural and engineering drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and analysis
  • Assist Lead Estimators in development of construction budgets based on schematic drawings, site walk through and/or construction documents
  • Where beneficial, attend walkthrough to check field conditions to prepare a complete estimate when Lead Estimator is not available
  • Manage multiple project estimates with consistent on-time delivery
  • Analyze subcontractor and vendor proposal submissions for scope and value
  • Solicit bids and selects proper subcontractors and vendors for assignment, when Lead Estimator needs assistance
  • Utilize appropriate software programs to calculate, record and track estimates
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, bid openings and pre-construction meetings as needed
  • Attend meetings with clients, architects and engineers as needed
  • Take meeting notes and deliver to Lead Estimator for entry into project tracking and management software
  • Develop and maintain subcontractor and vendor contacts and relationships.
  • Assist Lead Estimator in award of a project (that Jr. Estimator was involved in), set-up and coordinate the official handoff to the project execution team.
  • Assist in maintenance of unit rate database
  • Assist Lead Estimator in addressing RFI’s, RFP’s and Change Order Requests.

 

Required Skills / Abilities: 

  • Developed written, oral, and listening skills to effectively communicate with diverse
  • Ability to maintain existing client relations and develop new relationships with clients, engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Ability to work in high pressure situations, such as bid day.
  • Ability to develop detailed, solution oriented RFIs to be submitted to the design team and/or
  • Knowledge and use of estimating software such as: WinEst, Timberline, Microsoft Office, On-Screen Takeoff, ISQFT, Bluebeam preferred.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Education and Experience: 

  • Degree in the field of Construction Science, Engineering, or other related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of estimating experience, preferably in industrial or commercial building.
