Department: Recovery Services Reentry Services

Reports To: Department Director

General Functions:

The Clinical Training Specialist focuses on the identification, development and implementation of curriculum and clinical programming across department services. The specialist develops and delivers regular training and in-services that promote the delivery of quality, effective, and evidence-based care. This role collaborates with program and department leadership to define what curriculum and clinical initiatives are utilized, in what order, to what purpose, how it’s framed or contextualized, what materials to use, and how to measure success. The Specialist ensures clinical service delivery aligns with industry standards, Cook Inlet Tribal Council’s vision and mission, CARF accreditation standards and follows all State and Federal service delivery requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Clinical Managers, Supervisors and Department Leadership to evaluate clinical education/training needs and design programs to meet those needs.
  • Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of programs regarding delivery of services and design plans to promote strengths and address weaknesses.
  • Translate best practice, fidelity, accreditation and/or State/Federal requirements into training.
  • Support employees for the next step of their career path as applicable.
  • Build annual training programs and prepare teaching plans.
  • Develop or oversee the production of classroom handouts, instructional materials, aids and manuals.
  • Direct structured learning experiences and monitor their quality results.
  • Acclimate new hires to service delivery expectations/standards and conduct department orientation sessions.
  • Deliver training courses.
  • Assess training effectiveness to ensure the incorporation of taught skills and techniques into employees' work behavior.
  • Periodically evaluate programs to ensure that they reflect up-to-date material.
  • Build strategic education plans to encompass mandatory in-service, new hire orientation, program observations and feedback, etc.
  • Assists with the procurement of materials needed for training.
  • Participates in group sessions and milieu observations to ensure compliance with clinical and department standards and provide constructive feedback, as applicable.
  • Define curriculum objectives.
  • Find and create relevant group curriculum that contributes to the values and mission of the department.
  • Explore group interventions and educate others on various learning styles.
  • Design content delivery and assessment methods.
  • Determine ways to integrate technology into the group space.
  • Evaluate and revise existing curriculum as needed.
  • Adapt existing curriculum into digital formats.
  • Provide training materials or workshops to facilitators.

Job Specifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop training materials for paraprofessionals, providers, and non-clinical staff.
  • Knowledge of manualized psycho-educational training programs and evidence-based interventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and interpret peer-reviewed research and academic writing and apply knowledge to the development/application of materials.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design principles and practices to include: multiple learning modalities, interactive training and learning design, on-line/e-learning design principles, distance learning, instructor-led training, self-paced instruction, and evaluation methods.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to support trainees at a distance (via web-based and telephonic consultation)
  • Ability to communicate complex information to people with varying levels of education and training and different learning styles.
  • Proven ability to master the full training cycle.
  • Adequate knowledge of learning management software.
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods, tools and techniques
  • Familiarity with talent management and succession planning
  • Ability to conduct cost-benefit analysis.
  • Sound decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and database software

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology or Counseling, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in developing, facilitating and presenting training curriculum.
  • One (1) year providing direct behavioral health and/or substance use clinical services.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver’s license for at least three years.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon a satisfactory completion of state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification (CDC) I/II/S.
  • LCSW, LPC, or similar license.
  • Experience working in outpatient and residential environments.
  • Experience providing a combination of group, individual, and family treatment.
  • Experience/training in evidence-based, manualized, and otherwise, modalities of substance use treatment delivery.

Physical Requirements:

Primarily works in an office setting, with extended periods of time at a desk and on a computer.
