The Merchandise Handler performs a variety of distribution activities to receive, sort, store, distribute and manage the flow of product in a warehouse environment.

Scheduled Days: Sunday through Thursday

Hourly Rate: $16.90 plus $.50 shift premium. $1.50 additional bonus for Sundays worked

Essential Functions / Responsibilities (May perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned).

  • Efficiently unload products and merchandise from trailers, lifting boxes and items as needed, and verify deliveries against purchase orders or invoices.
  • Organize, stack, and load boxes and other items for outbound shipment, and replenish inventory on shelves with newly received goods.
  • Keep accurate records of items received and shipped to ensure smooth operation within the distribution center.
  • Operate material handling equipment with precision and safety, including the use of small hand tools, pallet handlers, and hand trucks.
  • Accurately pick and prepare products for shipment based on computerized order requests, ensuring inventory matches the specified order numbers.
  • Prepare and package merchandise for dispatch, utilizing tools like shrink wrap machines or other packaging equipment.
  • Employ mobile handheld or hands-free RF devices for scanning and tracking inventory throughout the facility.
  • Note: Tasks may vary in duration and frequency as required by operational needs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum age requirement of 18 years.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Up to one year of experience in Distribution, Warehouse, Supply Chain, or related fields is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to following all safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Capable of performing basic math to ensure precise inventory counts.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Keen awareness to identify moving objects and heed warning signals.
  • Must meet established productivity standards, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance in line with company policies and ADA requirements.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Eligible for training and certification by True Value Company to operate material handling equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of standing and walking for over 8 hours per day, covering distances of 5 to 10 miles.
  • Able to occasionally lift and lower items weighing between 50 to 85 pounds.
  • Frequently required to lift and lower items weighing 20 to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform tasks that may involve balancing, stair climbing, crouching, bending, twisting, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, and stooping.
  • Good visual acuity is necessary.
  • Available to work all required overtime hours.
  • Must possess normal physical agility to maneuver body while stationary.
  • Normal physical mobility required, including moving from place to place within the job site, considering distances and speed.
  • Able to work proficiently with hands and fingers for tasks such as typing, holding, grasping, and turning.

Work Environment:

  • The role is based in a distribution warehouse setting, where temperatures can vary and may include exposure to both indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Exposure to chemicals commonly found in warehouse environments is possible.
  • The position is physically demanding and typically requires full mobility to access all areas necessary for the job.
  • Work may include extended hours, as well as night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Personal protective equipment such as safety shoes and high-visibility clothing must be worn as mandated.
