Summary:

Assist the senior estimator in analyzing blueprints, specifications, material cost information, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, materials cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assist in reviewing existing designs, proposed product modifications, and pertinent data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare updated itemized, pricing lists for quoting purposes.

Confers with senior estimator, engineering and/or production personnel to determine design, revision, and fabrication capabilities.

Assist the senior estimator in computing cost factors and preparing estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost-effectiveness.

Assists the senior estimator in consultations with clients, vendors, purchasing, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve cost and delivery date issues.

Assist the senior estimator in the preparation of preliminary bill of materials for Material Control.

Assist in the analysis of completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies.

Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.

Identifies cost trends to assist senior estimator and management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.

Assist in obtaining freight costs and delivery times for both in-land and sea freight.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist the senior estimator to prepare and update sales histories and price lists. Communicates with appropriate agencies and prepares pertinent documents required for product export. Coordinates requests for quotes from company sales representatives pertinent to their territories.

  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, along with welding symbols and machining criteria.
  • Must understand Tooling concepts and be able to apply them, knowledge of costing and implications of decisions, labor costs, and overhead.
  • Must have a good knowledge of materials and uses of materials.
  • Must be able to be detailed, organized, and show quality of work.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Microsoft Excel knowledge and understanding are a plus.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with customers.

Education and/or Experience:

Associate or Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from an accredited college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training, or a minimum of five years hands-on experience in heavy steel manufacturing and line and supervisory positions, must be well-grounded in fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly processes.


Pay is Dependent on Experience.
