We are looking for a talented Launch Engineer to join our growing team. A Launch Engineer is responsible for the coordination and optimization of product launches and special orders.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinate production workflow for one or multiple launch commodities
  • Plan and prioritize operations to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay
  • Determine manpower, equipment and raw materials needed to cover launch production phase
  • Monitor jobs to ensure they will finish on time and within budget
  • Address issues when they arise aiming for minimum disruption
  • Obtain output information (number of finished products, percentage of defectives etc.)
  • Collaborate with Injection Molding, Paint, Assembly, quality control, warehouse and other departments and staff to achieve targets/goals
  • Communication to the customer of status of shipment and transit information as required
  • Responsible to schedule and ensure shipments leave SMP on time to meet due dates and customer satisfaction
  • Input of purchase orders to SAP and full fill manual orders
  • Support preparation of SMP commodities for Cubing/Measurement and special orders for the PD team and local customer
  • Prepare parts for launch build events including Assembly and final quality inspection
  • Print, select and verify the “pick list” for special builds prior to the official call off from the customer
  • Build Pre-Series and special-order parts off line or in special development equipment
  • Train team members
  • Technical Writing - standard work, work instructions, guides, etc.
  • Assist Product Development, Production, Logistics, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to optimize product launches.
  • Off-Shift support and training as required to support new products and processes.
  • Ability to travel to other SMP locations, customer sites, vendors, etc. Valid Driver’s License
  • Communication of shipment status and other information to the customer as required
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings
  • Manage inventory of pre-series / trial parts
  • Assist in completing PPAP activities (Run@Rates, etc.)
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What will you bring to the table (Skills/Experience Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering and/or 2+ years automotive production experience.
  • Proficiency with logistic & assembly processes
  • Understanding of cross-functional activities (departments like quality assurance, accounting, controlling & production)
  • Strong Communication / interpersonal /conflict resolution skills
  • Material Planning
  • Experience with SAP R3 or similar (Oracle, . . .)
  • Experience with MRP/PPS Systems
  • Experience with JIT & JIS Order Control Systems
  • Experience with Engineering Change Control Processes
  • Proficient MS-Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • 5 Why knowledge (problem solving)
  • 5S's good command
  • Familiar with OSHA standards
  • Process, results driven
  • Proficiency in English
  • Standard Work Methodology (LEAN)
  • Technical Writing Proficiency
  • Continuous Improvement)
  • English language skills
