Department: Park Services-Zoo                                                                  Part-Time: Hourly - Non-exempt


Position Description

Under the direction of the Manager of Recreation and Interpretation, Assistant Manager and Manager on Duty, the Zoo’s Cashier’s provide exceptional customer service to Zoo guests and collection of payment for admittance and items sold to guests. This is an at-will position limited to 1000 hours per year.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Collects admissions fees.
  • Issues receipts to each guest and makes change.
  • Balances the cash receipts at the close of the shift and completes appropriate forms.
  • Greets all guests with a cheerful and helpful attitude, answers questions, and provides information.
  • Keeps workstation and surrounding area clean throughout the day. Cleaning workstation will include but is not limited to emptying trash, cleaning the windows and counters, and sweeping/mopping the floor.
  • Restocks gift shop merchandise, ensuring that displays are organized and well displayed.
  • Performs maintenance projects as directed, such as leaf blowing, maintaining feed machines and changing hand sanitizers.
  • Complies with all safety and loss prevention policies.
  • Inform supervisor of any unsafe conditions or hazardous work procedures.
  • Correct any unsafe conditions, if possible, and instruct co-workers on safety procedures.
  • Completes all additional duties as prescribed by management.
  • Assists other Park District employees when needed.

Qualifications

  • Excellent guest service skills; verbal communication skills and listening skills. Prior experience with cash handling, preferred, but not required. Minimum 16 years of age, unless work permit provided.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Good physical condition, sufficient strength, and mobility required.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn additional software and systems required for business transactions.
  • Possess good problem solving skills and has capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergencies.
  • Ability to pay meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to execute the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Employee must have the ability to read and understand materials printed in English.
  • Employee must possess good problem solving skills and have the capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergency situations.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationship with subordinates and work in a team setting with enthusiasm.


Hours Standards

Seasonal position working up to 40 hours per week March through December.  Scheduled days and times vary.  Weekend and holiday work will be required as well as irregular hours.
