Purpose 


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nighttime Asphalt Paving Superintendent to join our team. In this role, you will oversee and manage all aspects of asphalt paving operations during night shifts, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and with the highest level of quality. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, strong leadership abilities, and exceptional organizational skills.


Job Responsibilities


  • Project Management: Manage all aspects of asphalt paving projects during night shifts, including scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination of activities to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Supervision: Lead and supervise a team of paving crew members, equipment operators, and subcontractors to ensure they adhere to safety protocols, quality standards, and project specifications.
  • Quality Control: Monitor paving operations closely to ensure that asphalt mixtures are applied correctly, surfaces are properly compacted, and finished products meet or exceed quality standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of paving equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime during night shifts.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety regulations and procedures to create a safe work environment for all personnel involved in paving operations. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders to provide updates on project progress, address concerns, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Documentation: Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, equipment maintenance, and any incidents or accidents that occur during night shifts. Prepare daily reports and submit them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during nighttime paving operations, such as material shortages, equipment malfunctions, or unexpected weather conditions.
  • Traffic Control Setup: Set up traffic control in all work zone scenarios based on the Kentucky and Indian State specifications as well as the Department of Transportation’s MUTCD manual. Must be ATTSA certified or have other similar certification.

 

Qualifications 


  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in asphalt paving, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably during night shifts.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of asphalt paving techniques, equipment, and materials. Familiarity with paving software and GPS systems is a plus.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities with the ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve project goals while maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Proven ability to identify issues, analyze problems, and develop effective solutions in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Safety Consciousness: Commitment to promoting and enforcing safety standards and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of all personnel.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed to meet project deadlines and requirements.

 

Physical Demands 


  • Must be able to work all positions on a paving crew. Operator, Screw, Rake, Shovel.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 80lbs.
