Job DescriptionJob DescriptionGeneral Definition of Work

Performs intermediate technical work developing, implementing, and managing access control policies and procedures to ensure the security of two facilities and the service area, conducting audits, incident investigation, managing access credentials, troubleshooting basic technical issues, and coordinating with various teams to maintain and enhance security measures. The specialist will also handle the emergency communication system and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Quality Assurance Manager.

Essential Functions

Develop security and access control policies and procedures.

Conduct regular audits of access control systems and generate reports on findings.

Monitor and manage access control systems for two facilities.

Issue, track, and manage access cards and credentials for employees, contractors, and visitors.

Perform routine audits of access logs and report any anomalies or breaches.

Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and company security policies and procedures.

Provide basic troubleshooting support and handle technical issues related to access control systems.

Assist in the installation and maintenance of access control hardware and software.

Coordinate with IT and security teams for the integration of access control systems with other security measures.

Investigate security incidents, provide recommendations for improvements, and assist with incident investigations as needed.

Conduct field inspections to identify security concerns within the service area.

Assist with the coordination of security audits with federal, state, and local jurisdictions.

Manage the building security system (ADT) and inspect for issues.

Management of the emergency communication system (Everbridge), including sending out messages during incidents.

Maintain accurate records of access control activities.


Minimum Qualifications

Associates/Technical degree in security management, IT, or related field and intermediate experience in fieldwork, customer service, data entry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

At least 2 years of experience in security, access control, or a related field. Basic knowledge of access control systems and hardware. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to conduct audits and generate comprehensive reports. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Special QualificationsAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Information Technology, or a related field is desired.

Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position.

Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Job Specifications

General knowledge of bus operations, commercial driving, or general transportation; general knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures; general knowledge of the organization's rules, policies, and procedures applicable to assigned function; general knowledge of record keeping practices. Familiarity with federal, state, and local security regulations and standards.

Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; skill in data entry; skill in data analysis. Experience with access control system software such as Lenel. Experience with emergency communication systems (e.g., Everbridge). Technical proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues related to access control building security systems (e.g., ADT).

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to evaluate performance based upon observation; ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public; ability to work outside in all weather conditions; ability to work collaboratively with other departments; ability to handle confidential information according to established procedure; ability to manage multiple tasks; ability to analyze issues and to utilize problem solving/analysis to resolve and/or escalate these issues in a timely manner; ability to read maps and knowledge of local street geography; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, customers, department directors and managers, and the general public.


Working Conditions
