Position Title: Communications Supervisor
Reports To: Regional District Manager of Operations
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for supervising the daily activities and operations of the EMS dispatch personnel in the Emergency Communications Center. Determines a course of action during crisis situations and applies sound judgment to broad policy of procedural guidelines. Supervises and directs the Communications Center's personnel on an assigned shift, ensuring the Center is sufficiently staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Monitors the handling of emergency and routine calls for service and compliance with department rules, regulations, policies and procedures for the communication center.
- Maintains constant awareness for errors and associated consequences.
- Assist the Communications Center Manager in the preparation and monitoring of schedules, assigns personnel, maintains adequate staffing levels considering such factors as time-off, incident rates, on-call schedules, overtime and any special requirements of the shift.
- Ensures scheduled safety inspections are conducted and documented.
- Initiates corrective action as necessary.
- Ensures that status reports on safety activities and progress are completed and documented in a timely manner.
- Serves as a role model and supporter of the safety program through frequent conversations with employees.
- Works with minimal supervision and makes empowered decisions with organizational goals and objectives in mind.
- Apply applicable laws, codes and regulations
- Ensure accuracy of logs, records, messages and reports.
- Fills in for Communications Operations as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in an EMS communications center preferred.
- Experience utilizing a computer aided dispatch system.
- Knowledge of dynamic system status management plans.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
- High degree of accuracy required.
- Skill in handling conflict, uncertain situations, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in using standard office and dispatch equipment, computer equipment, CAD and other software applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion.
- Skill is establishing and maintaining control of situations as they develop, reacting quickly and calmly in emergency situations, and making reasonable and effective decisions.
