Assistant Director for Campus Life

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Campus Life, the Assistant Director of Campus Life provides oversight and leadership for residential students and the Fraternity and Sorority life community at Knox. Additionally, the Assistant Director coordinates the Student Leader Selection process and assists with the administrative functions of housing operations. This is a live-on position supervising paraprofessional Resident Assistants with an additional focus on Fraternity and Sorority Life advising and program development. A successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across campus to develop, implement and assess an intentional and cohesive out-of-classroom experience which focuses on community engagement and inclusivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Residential Life Responsibilities
- Oversee all first-year residence halls.
- Serve as a primary resource for residential students regarding any and all developmental and community concerns; actively support the case management function of the Dean of Students.
- With the Assistant Dean for Campus Life, assist with housing operations, including room assignments, room changes and consolidation, and damage charges.
- Supervise paraprofessional Resident Assistants, providing guidance in and oversight of community building, programming, conflict resolution, peer counseling, and enforcement of community standards.
- Provide leadership to the development and implementation of Resident Assistant selection and training.
- Work as part of a campus-wide duty rotation; respond to after-hours student and/or college emergencies as needed.
- Assist the Assistant Dean for Campus Life with other projects and duties, as assigned.
Fraternity & Sorority Life Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the area of fraternity and sorority life; serving as primary advisor to the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils.
- Provide support to four sororities, five fraternities, and one honor society (Order of Omega); meeting regularly with FSL presidents and council presidents.
- Assist with the planning and facilitation of recruitment efforts for FSL chapters.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive programming model for the FSL community.
- Oversee and manage the housing operations for Fraternity and Sorority Life; track maintenance related needs, housing rosters for the residential organizations, check-in and check-out, etc.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Serve as the chair of the Student Leadership Selection Committee and coordinate the leader selection process.
- Serve as instructor/co-instructor for IDIS 130, Knox College’s student leadership course
- Assist students with campus storage location needs.
- Other duties and committee assignments, as assigned.
Qualifications
Master’s degree is preferred. Experience with residence life, fraternity and sorority life or campus activities preferred.
