Reports to:          Program Coordinators

Description:  Behavioral Interventionists (BI’s) working as part of our School Based Services Teams are focused on helping our youth build appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral strategies within their school and community settings.  This is done in collaboration with mental health and educational providers by implementing a behavioral support plan focused on improving emotional regulation and building positive connections.  The BI Provides direct supervision to enrolled children or youth within a school setting and serves as an integral member of the youth’s educational team. In additional to Implementing behavioral programming School Based BI’s provide counseling in social, recreational, and daily living skills in school and community-based settings. Full-time benefit eligible position. 

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
              
  • With minimal direct supervision, counsel, supervise, and support children/ youth with social and emotional regulation during daily routines, recreational activities, and educational attendance/ work.
  • Provide direct services to a moderately complex caseload.
  • Write timely specialized rehab. summary notes and all other treatment related documentation with advanced clinical competency.
  • Implement treatment, behavior, and safety plans with minimal direct supervision.
  • With minimal supervision and advanced service/ treatment planning skills, ensure safe and successful service delivery of daily treatment, education, and life-skill development of a moderately complex caseload that maximizes client engagement and milieu cohesion.
  • Independently support client engagement in school settings to ensure successful participation in all educational activities.
  • Skillfully engage internal/ external service providers during case reviews, referral management, clinical consultation, care transitions.
  • Attend and contribute meaningful client information at staff meetings as required.
  • With in-direct supervision, safely physically restrain moderately complex children and youth who are a danger to self or others.
  • Use advanced crisis de-escalation and passive restraint techniques.
  • Attend staff meetings and entry level trainings as assigned.
  • Under minimal supervision, manage moderate problems and crisis situations that may require a multi-person approach.
  • Under general supervision, manage advanced requests, problems, and crises.
  • Attend trainings as assigned by supervision.
  • Follow and inform the process for developing program policies & procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned according to agency and program needs.


Additional Requirements:
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with parents, school staff, WCMHS staff, and other professionals.
  • Valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle.
  • Willingness to transport clients in personal vehicle as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds as well as execute restraint techniques.
  • Ability to move from seated to standing position with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to move around a school setting with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to walk and hike up to one mile in one continuous session.

Experience:
  • Experience providing direct supports and therapeutic services to children with challenging behaviors.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of trauma informed care practices.
