Job Description 

Full time Employees are eligible to receive our $3,000 retention bonus. Under the supervision of the Lead Ophthalmic Technician, we are seeking an Ophthalmology Technician to join our team in our growing multispecialty practice. The Ophthalmology Technician performs duties of a clinical assistant specializing in anatomy, function, and diseases of the eye. Technicians facilitate patient care by performing the preliminary "work up" of the patient. This includes gathering all past medical records, performing preliminary eye function and diagnostic testing needed for the physician to diagnose and treat such eye conditions. Under the direction of the physician, refractive technicians may assist in surgical procedures such as Lasik Eye Surgery. Schedule is M0nday-Friday, 7:00am-4:00pm and includes 1 Saturday rotation/month

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the surgical suite for LASIK and other refractive procedures.  You will be trained and certified to operate the laser including clinical data input, calibration and scrubbing in to assist during surgery
  • Prepare laser room and instruments for surgery; wash and sterilize equipment post-surgery.
  • Manage patient flow from pre-op through surgery to post-op phase.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of all medications and medical supplies.
  • Monitor laser room and clinic equipment; maintain records regarding equipment service, testing and safety according to company policy and procedure.
  • Delivering quality patient care, excellent communication and customer service
  • Applying drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
  • Educating patients by providing information regarding treatment, use of drops and drugs
  • Operating various ophthalmology diagnostic equipment

Additional Information 

Boston Vision currently has 5 locations in the Metro-Boston area. We ask our staff to be open to assisting in other locations as the business demands. Additional mileage is reimbursed as a travel expense. Strong candidates should have the ability to provide situational leadership, exceptional diplomatic communication skills, and experience in handling difficult customer situations. Must be detail oriented and have the ability to multitask. A proven track record in advanced high level customer service and follow through is a plus. Must be a positive and professional team player. 

Education and Experience

  • At least one year experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 

This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work vary according to the business demands. 

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional medical office environment routinely using standard office and clinical equipment such as computers, telephones and testing equipment.
