Safety Supervisors are responsible for a great deal of what goes on day-to-day operations. Primary responsibility is coach and guide operations management, leads and hourly employees to achieve safe and healthful workplace. This position does not have direct reports. Position reports to facility Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) manager.


Key Responsibilities

  • Management: Supports facility EHS manager to manage site compliance following Safety Management System (SMS). Participates and leads facility subcommittee meetings- i.e. Safety committee, PSM team, Facility Emergency Responders
  • Cross Functional Engagement: Participates and engages in cross functional teams to support their programs i.e., Loss Tree, 5S.
  • KPIs: Supports development and execution of annual goals for safety performance. Accurately logs & reports Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and demonstrates thriving effort to achieve targets. KPI examples may be both leading and lagging indicators. Some examples are Hazards/Near Miss reporting and action tracking, Safety events; first aid, recordable and property damages, TRIR rate.
  • Risk Assessment: Follows facility guidelines to conduct risk analysis and troubleshoot/diagnose potential EHS problems/hazards. This includes root case analysis, effective physical or behavioral control measures, and development of corrective action plans to arrive at best outcome.
  • Behavioral Safety: Demonstrates a knowledge of appropriate solutions to drive improved behavior and safer job practices. Reviews hazards and safety issues reported by the supervisors and initiates corrective actions.
  • Training: Train and instruct employees so they can perform their work safely. Know what personal protective equipment is needed for each task and how this equipment must be properly used, stored, and maintained. When there are mandated safety training courses, ensure that your employees take them and that they are appropriately documented. Collaborates with cross functional leaders to develop Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and/or Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for employees.
  • Audits: Completes periodic internal audits of safety programs and/or its components. Closely works with EHS manager to complete audits and inspections.
  • Worker’s compensation and case Management: Manages the cases of injured workers following internal case management protocols. Also, responsible for Workers Compensation program management: prevention to injury management and follow ups to return to work.
  • Record Keeping: Keeps records of SOPs, JSAs, injuries, training, and key components of EHS programs.



Skills and Qualifications

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in EHS or a related field or one year of experience in safety management.
  • One or more of the Safety Professional Certifications like OSHA 30, OSHA 501, Certified Safety Manager (CSM), Associate of Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or be able to achieve within 6 months of hire
  • General knowledge of OSHA standards
  • Sound ability to present the training materials to hourly and/or management members.
  • Strong Microsoft skills
