POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Sports Director, the Gym Instructor is responsible for the gym and the equipment as well as following the daily schedule of specific activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Uphold the YMCA of Montclair commitment to caring for individuals and families, with a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility and basic principles of honesty, integrity, and a sincere commitment to our team members and our members.
  • Ensure areas are clean, free of hazards and that the equipment is operational.
  • Greet all participants and/or family members in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Know the schedules and who is permitted to play in the gym and what times.
  • Always be enthusiastic and interact with the participants in conversation and activities.
  • Be alert to what all children/youth/adults are always doing to ensure safety, proper use of equipment and that they are engaged and happy.
  • Be alert to inappropriate behavior including language and address it immediately with the individual(s)
  • Maintain “order” regarding behavior and sharing of space.
  • Put equipment away at the completion of each time frame.
  • Ensure that participants are not leaving the area with YMCA equipment.
  • Be willing to assist in other areas when no youth are present to look after them.
  • Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, & Responsibility.
  • Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the YMCA.
  • Cooperate, work effectively and congenially with all YMCA staff members, volunteers, and members of the Association.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
  • Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhered to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 16 years of age
  • High school graduate
  • Experience working with youth of all and/or varying ages (5 and up)
  • Interested in sports & games and youth related activities.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to follow directions and adhere to policies and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


This work requires the following physical activities: playing games (standing & sitting) bending, kneeling, walking, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.

HOURLY PAY RATE: $16.13 to $18.00.


WORK SCHEDULE:


Monday to Friday: 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Saturday: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
