General Summary of Duties:
Certified Orthotist's primary function will be to complete a patient plan for the patient, the design, fabrication, modification, repair, and maintenance of orthoses for patients as prescribed by the health care practitioner.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following:
- Ensures proper patient management is consistent with established practices for orthotic care.
- Identifies and addresses issues or concerns to ensure patient satisfaction with services provided.
- Assists physicians with prescription criteria and provide assessments to ensure order is appropriate.
- Demonstrates professional skills and competencies used in the practice of prosthetic evaluation, device fabrication, device modification, clinical fit, alignment and follow up as necessary.
- Obtains proper authorization for the purchase, fabrication or repair of prosthetic devices.
- Performs fitting and alignment of orthotic devices, initial orthotic education and follow-up.
- Maintains accurate documentation that clearly defines goals, obstacles and solutions for each patient including initial evaluation and progress notes.
- Reviews new techniques and materials to ensure a wide range of flexibility and services offered.
- Provides on-call services, as necessary.
- Meets with physicians, therapists and other referral sources to market Orthotics services.
- Adheres to all safety regulations, including compliance with OSHA requirements.
- Compliant with Medicare and other government agencies’ standards.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Must be a certified Orthotist (CO) with the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics or BOC certified.
