This Vocational Trainer requires the ability to work closely with one individual on a daily basis in both the Adult Training Facility and Residential environments. The work involves providing the individual with direct supervision and assistance with their vocational duties. Must be able to facilitate life skills training and social behaviors during the individual’s daily routine. This is an hourly, non-exempt position. This position is Monday thru Friday 6 am to 2:30 pm.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with the team to develop training programs and strategies to teach new life skills in the areas of safety skills and safe transition methods, pre-vocational skills, self-help, self-management, and leisure.
  • Redirect and assist individuals with daily vocational duties and responsibilities, ensuring all jobs for this individual are engaging and accounted for.
  • Implement and document progress in all training areas using individualized methods on a daily basis.
  • Implement goals and procedural objectives based on developed programs.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop appropriate daily routines, safety routines strategies, and judicious positive reinforcement of adaptive behaviors.
  • Work with the team and Psychology to develop and implement individualized programs to decrease identified challenging symptoms and behaviors.
  • Provide information to Psychiatry to assist in the management of Psychiatric interventions.
  • Escort and provide information during scheduled Psychiatric appointments.
  • Provide and maintain communication with the appropriate QIDP, Program Services Specialist, and House Manager to ensure consistent support and appropriate programming for the individual.
  • Assist with educating peers to work with individual during “off” times.
  • Attend all in-service training sessions.
  • Function at all times as the individual’s advocate.
  • Attend and work with the individual when scheduled for IPP meetings, EA/ET or AA.
  • Accompany the individual with off-campus trips and doctors’ appointments.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to constructively handle challenging behaviors of both a physical and social nature.
  • Ability to work with individual who may exhibit non-compliant behavior.
  • Must have patience, self-motivation, and the capability of learning skills to address non-compliant behavior.
  • Must learn sign language in order to be able to communicate with the individual.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Knowledgeable of the basic principles and techniques for training and interacting with developmentally/physically challenged individuals preferred.
  • Must maintain an excellent attendance record.
  • Must have good analytical and writing skills.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Ability to successfully complete all Verland-offered training.
  • Must have all required clearances.
  • Must maintain all federal and state required certifications.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Requirements:
  • This position requires constant sitting, standing, walking, and driving a van-sized vehicle as needed.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry fifty (50) pounds independently, bending and stretching as needed without restrictions
  • Required for this position is the ability to see, hear, speak, write, push, pull, climb, twist, and possess manual dexterity.
