Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Assistant Manager at the Garden Center assists the Garden Center Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the garden center. This role involves ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining the health and presentation of plants, managing inventory, supervising staff, and supporting sales and marketing activities.
Location: Spokane, WAHours: 10am-630pm Salary: $20 Per Hour
Key Responsibilities:Customer Service:
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with product selection, answering questions, and resolving complaints.
  • Educate customers on plant care, gardening techniques, and garden center products.
Operations Management:
  • Assist in opening and closing the garden center.
  • Ensure the garden center is clean, organized, and safe for customers and staff.
  • Monitor and maintain plant health by overseeing watering, pruning, fertilizing, and pest control.
Inventory Management:
  • Assist in ordering, receiving, and stocking plants and gardening supplies.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and report discrepancies.
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure a diverse and sufficient stock of products.
Staff Supervision:
  • Assist in hiring, training, and supervising garden center staff.
  • Schedule staff shifts and ensure adequate coverage during peak hours.
  • Lead by example and motivate staff to achieve sales and service goals.
Sales and Marketing:
  • Support the implementation of sales and promotional activities.
  • Assist in arranging displays to attract customers and promote sales.
  • Provide input on marketing strategies to increase foot traffic and sales.
Administrative Tasks:
  • Assist in maintaining accurate sales records and reporting.
  • Handle cash register operations, including cash handling and reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. A degree in horticulture, business management, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience: Previous experience in retail, customer service, or gardening is preferred. Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership and team management abilities.
  • Basic math skills for handling cash and managing inventory.
  • Proficiency in using point-of-sale (POS) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.
Work Environment:
  • Primarily works in a garden center environment, which may include outdoor settings.
  • May require working on weekends, holidays, and during peak seasons.
