The Medical Assistant, under the supervision of the nurse supervisor, is responsible for assisting the provider in the delivery of health care and patient care management. This job also operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Obtains medical and/or social history and all vital signs and measurements as directed and document them appropriately.
  2. Assists the providers with examination of patients.
  3. Obtains and prepares specimen for processing as directed.
  4. Administers treatments, immunizations and medications correctly as directed.
  5. Cleans, prepares and stocks supplies in examination rooms.
  6. Maintains equipment and supplies including those in the emergency kit: cleans and sterilizes any and all instruments.
  7. Maintains records and reports all data pertinent to patient care.
  8. Participates in internal KPCHC meetings and in-service training sessions as scheduled.
  9. Participates in professional continuing education, including current CPR certification.
  10. Assists coworkers in patient care or other tasks in order to maintain an even flow of patients and paperwork.
  11. Performs lab tests as assigned and is responsible for running controls and record keeping.
  12. Treats each patient in a manner that preserves and supports patient confidentiality, patient rights, and patient dignity.
  13. Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts prior to appointment and collecting additional information such as lab results, ER reports etc as indicated from chart review and patient care huddle
  14. Maintain professional appearance at all times.
  15. Adhere to all policies and procedures including office and state protocols.
  16. Other Duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
  1. Current, unencumbered State of Kansas or National Certified or Registered Medical Assistant Credentials or experienced Combat Medic, preferred.
  2. CPR certification for Health Care Providers is required.
  3. Current vaccination record meeting ACIP Healthcare Workers Recommendations is required.
  4. 6-12 months of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting is required.
  5. 1 year of FQHC experience preferred.
  6. 1 year experience in a Primacy Care setting preferred.
  7. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
