Stroke Coordinator (RN) - Quality Management

Job Description

General Summary

Facilitates performance improvement activities for the Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC) Stroke Center to ensure consistency with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Coordinates the activities of the stroke care program to ensure that stroke patients receive care that is consistent with the current standards of care as defined by the American Stroke Association, The Joint Commission (TJC), and Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS). Leads continuous readiness efforts for TJC and MIEMSS survey processes.

Employee is responsible for extending the mission and values of the Baltimore Washington Medical Center by dedicating oneself to providing a broad continuum of quality stroke care services to improve the health status of the community we serve and its individual residents.

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Director of Accreditation.

Qualifications

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing required. Two to three years' experience in Performance Improvement,
  • knowledge of regulatory, accrediting and Primary Stroke Center designation requirements.
  • Three to five years of clinical experience in the care of the Medical Surgical or stroke patients, computer skills.
  • knowledge of research and statistical methods are necessary.
  • The Associate must have excellent writing skills and knowledge of correct business English; strong organization skills, ability to perform multiple tasks with interruptions and manage time effectively to achieve simultaneous goals.
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with physicians, hospital personnel and external agencies, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills, demonstrated by effective problem identification and problem-solving.
  • Must have experience with automated databases. Demonstrates a commitment to group goals and teamwork.

Working Conditions

  • Works inside a clean, well-lighted environment. May be exposed to multiple demands.
  • Work is high demand. There is potential for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials in clinical areas requiring the observance of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices.
  • This position has been classified as low or no exposure risk and does not require the completion of an annual testing, but may require "just in time" testing if the need arises.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time. Standing, walking, stooping and bending are required. Manual dexterity for utilizing computer keyboard is required.
  • Visual acuity to read medical records, department literature and viewing video display monitors is required.
  • Clear speaking and articulation and hearing required for telephone communication and interacting with customers.
  • Lifting of less than 25 pounds with frequent handling of records and reports and reaching for and handling of equipment is required.
