The City of Ballwin is seeking a professional, highly motivated Chief of Police for this West County community, home to over 450 businesses, and a residential population of 31,000. The Ballwin Police Department (BPD) is CALEA accredited and the City is routinely named one of the safest in Missouri. Under the supervision of the City Administrator, this position is to plan, coordinate, direct and evaluate law enforcement activities and personnel to protect and serve the Ballwin residents and property according to the applicable state statutes and ordinances. This position offers a competitive compensation/benefits package with a starting salary of $118,717 to $127,978 depending on qualifications.

Position Responsibilities:

The BPD consists of 47 sworn officers and 13 civilian personnel, including dispatchers. This position is responsible for directing all departmental operations, including the planning, coordinating, staff, quality control and evaluation of all departmental functions to ensure the highest standard of professionalism and excellence in service to the community. The successful candidate should be an innovative leader with a clearly stated history of professional law enforcement accomplishments, and proven track record in management, organizational planning, and staff development. The candidate should possess the ability to implement change, seek and utilize additional resources and remain current on technological advancements. We are a department with strong ties to the community and the emphasis on effective community policing practices and problem solving methods are required. He or she should have the ability to communicate effectively, as well as excellent interpersonal skills as to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships. History of successful partnerships with other municipal departments is preferred.

Position Qualifications and Requirements:

Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a related field required. Missouri POST (Peace Officer Standard Training) certification and a valid Missouri driver's license also required. The successful candidate should have at least seven years of law enforcement supervisory/management experience.
