Position Summary:

The Registered Dietitian is responsible for promoting health and wellness by providing nutrition counseling. Dietitians and nutritionists are experts in food and nutrition. They advise people on what to eat in order to lead a healthier lifestyle and/or achieve a specific health-related goal.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Explain nutrition issues

  • Assess supported person(s) health needs and diet

  • Listen carefully to understand the supported person(s) goals and concerns.

  • Develop meal plans, taking both cost and supported person(s) preferences into account

  • Counsel supported person(s) and staff on nutrition issues and healthy eating habits

  • Evaluate the effects of meal plans and change the plans as needed.

  • Promote better nutrition by giving talks to groups about diet, nutrition, and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases.

  • Keep up with the latest nutritional science research. Should be able to interpret scientific studies and translate nutrition science into practical eating advice.

  • Work with other healthcare workers, staff, family, and agency representatives as part of the team to improve the health and wellness of supported person(s).

  • Teach nutrition and dysphagia training classes.

  • Calculate tube feeding regimens

  • Develop plain language protocols for staff when needed.

  • Document and submit reports per Therapeutic Services department’s policies and procedures

  • Develop programs and counsel the public on topics related to food and nutrition.

  • Communicate evaluation requests, recommendations and training needs to RN CM/DN (Registered Nurse Case Manager/Delegating Nurse), TSL (Therapeutic Services Lead), and Agency representative

  • Be an active and positive member of the Therapeutic Services and DHCA team

  • Attend scheduled department and staff meetings and in-services

  • Provide staff trainings as requested

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and/or Dietetics

    • A graduate degree is required if taking the registration examination for the first time on or after January 1, 2024.

  • Current/valid Registered Dietitian registration and licensure

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Dietitian is preferred.

  • Experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is highly desired.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Must have current valid state-issued driver's license and own reliable transportation.

  • Must maintain a working cell phone capable of making calls, receiving calls, receiving emails, sending emails and acting as a hotspot.

  • Must be able to fluently speak and understand spoken English.

  • Must be able to fluently write and read English.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to sit and look at a computer for multiple hours during a scheduled workday.

  • Must be able to type on a computer (both laptop and desktop) keyboard and utilize a computer mouse for hours at a time during a scheduled workday.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds up to 4 times during a scheduled workday.

  • Must be able to walk up and down a minimum of 20 stairs.

  • Must be able to stand for a minimum of 90 minutes.

  • Must be able to bend, kneel, and squat throughout the day.

License/Certifications:

  • Registered Dietitian

    • RDN - Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist

    • LDN - Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist
