  • SUMMARY: The Automotive Mechanic is primarily responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the Vehicle Maintenance Facility. The Automotive Mechanic is responsible for the general operation and success of the Vehicle Maintenance Facility including diagnosing problems in vehicles, ordering parts, repairing the vehicle, maintaining vehicles and customer service. The Automotive Mechanic must oversee and supervise Individuals and provide oversight and some supervision to other staff working in the facility; model target skills and related behaviors, and uphold healthy boundaries in the working relationship. The Automotive Mechanic will direct the activities of the Vehicle Maintenance Facility to ensure maximum revenues, effectiveness and profitability, while ensuring customer satisfaction. The Automotive Mechanic will develop, train, and lead the established team in a person-centered environment. The Automotive Mechanic must meet the budget and performance goals. The Automotive Mechanic will be responsible for all daily activities in the Vehicle Maintenance Facility.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES and MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Vehicle Maintenance Facility and related activities.
  2. Consistently and effectively provide supervision, training, direction, motivation, and support to staff, Individuals in service, interns and volunteers.
  3. Responsible for creating and maintaining facility organization with job responsibilities/assignments.
  4. Inspect vehicle engine, powertrain, mechanical and electrical components to accurately diagnose issues and repair quickly and effectively.
  5. Responsible for the positive image of the facility and promoting its purpose in the community, including, but not limited to, facility appeal, professional repair, overall facility presentation, overall general cleanliness, etc.
  6. Pass the Medication Administration test with no more than two attempts and administer medication to clients according to physician orders and using appropriate administration techniques as outlined in the Medication Administration course, if needed.
  7. Must be able to perform Lifting and Transferring techniques as trained and pass performance testing. The employee may occasionally lift and/or push and pull up to 100 lbs. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement.
  8. Driving of agency vehicles as necessary for transportation of clients and agency business as assigned. Must also be able to safely drive customer vehicles.

  • Able to regularly sit, walk, stand, climb up and down stairs, physically restrain clients pursuant to training (when necessary) and sit at a computer for long periods of time and repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times (typing, data entry).
  • Communicate through speech with individuals in service and public in both quiet and noisy environments.
  • Operate a personal computer and related software.
  • Tolerate various levels of stress and meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • Demonstrate specific vision abilities which include close, distance, and depth perception and able to read handwritten or typed material, and able to adjust focus.
  • Work and concentrate in both noisy and quiet environments.
  • Squat, stoop, kneel, and reach above the head. Forward motion will occasionally be required.
  • Work inside the building a majority of the time.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee and actively participate in diagnosing, maintaining and repairing of vehicles.
  2. Proven experience as an automotive mechanic.
  3. Conduct routine maintenance work aiming to improve vehicle functionality and longevity.
  4. Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, labor) for a repair job or maintenance job.
  5. Maintain shop equipment and tools in good condition.
  6. Willingness to observe all OSHA and safety precautions and regulations for protections against accident, dangerous fluids, chemicals, etc.
  7. Prepare vehicle records and reports.
  8. Responsible for cash-handling processes and procedures.
  9. Inspect, diagnose and repair vehicle computer and electronic systems.
  10. Supervise individuals and staff on shift.
  11. Ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times while minimizing overtime in accordance with salary budget.
  12. Maintain and follow InspirationField and Vehicle Maintenance Facility policies and procedures at all times.
  13. Perform safety inspections of facility and equipment.
  14. Ability to handle and operate various tools and equipment.
  15. Operate a cash register, reconcile cash with sales receipts, keep record of financial transactions, schedule employees, reporting, etc.
  16. Responsible for following local, state and federal requirements related to automotive repairs.
  17. Responsible for coordinating and managing staff, interns and volunteers.
  18. Develop, oversee, and actively promote customer service to strengthen customer relationships.
  19. Establish, oversee, and implement inventory control procedures.
  20. Maintain all facility data and compile reports as required by agency, local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  21. Safeguard all agency funds and property.
  22. Participate in staff training activities and staff meetings, as outlined in the agency's staff development curriculum.
  23. Work flexible schedules or within various environments as agency and supervisor deems necessary. Staff attendance and promptness to assigned shifts is essential. The responsibilities of this position may require staff to be able to work irregular, extended, and/or be available for on-call work hours, evenings, nights, weekend, holidays, etc.
  24. Follow agency procedures when purchasing items on behalf of the agency.
  25. Follow agency policies and procedures in carrying out duties.
  26. Advise supervisor and/or the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of concerns and problems that arise within the agency.
  27. Performs other duties as assigned by the Adult Services Director, CEO, and/or designee.
  28. Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary for success. An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

MINIMUM/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum: This position requires a high school diploma or GED. This position requires ASE Certifications. The individual must also have three years of demonstrated automotive mechanic/technician experience. Experience in supervising staff. The individual must furnish their own hand tools. Computer knowledge and experience with word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs. Must be at least 18 years of age. Persons hired into this position must be licensed drivers and have reliable transportation. If current license is from out-of-state, a valid Colorado Driver's License is required within ten days of hire. Background check, drug and alcohol check, reference check, and motor vehicle checks must be passed. Current motor vehicle insurance is required. Driving is an essential job duty.

Preferred: Master ASE certifications and/or CDL

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, walk, and stand. Occasionally, movement that requires twisting at the neck and/or trunk more than the average person, squatting/ stooping/kneeling, reaching above the head, forward motion and laying in prone position will be required. The employee will continuously be required to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. Manual and finger dexterity are essential to this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, depth perception and telling differences among colors. The employee must be able to communicate through speech with clients and public. Hearing requirements include conversation in both quiet and noisy environments. The employee will occasionally lift and/or push and pull up to 100 pounds. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement. This position demands tolerance for various levels of stress.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Working conditions normally involves inside environments, but also includes work in an outside environment. This position requires working irregular or extended work hours.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, individuals in service, individuals in service parents, and/or the general public is required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Able to apply basic mathematical skills to include concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Able to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  1. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Adult Services Director provides supervision of this position. The Automotive Mechanic is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Vehicle Maintenance Facility. The Automotive Mechanic will train and manage staff, Individuals in service, interns and volunteers, and supervise/coordinate various related facility activities. The Automotive Mechanic may also work closely with the Chief Executive Officer. In general, this position requires that the individual work independently approximately 95% of the time.

Able to work with others, with system issues, and able to work within designated time frames. Patience in dealing with staff, individuals in service, and parents. Able to develop effective working relationships with staff, individuals in service, and the community. Good communication skills and able to work with others as a team is a must. Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Able to perform duties in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
