Position Summary

Responsible for providing culturally sensitive and trauma-informed therapeutic services to pregnant and newly parenting women and their families who are enrolled in an MCC home-visiting program. Clients have a mental health or substance abuse diagnosis and/or relational factors that are impacting their ability to function to their highest potential. Services are designed to meet the specific needs of the identified client and family members, are provided with client-centered and family-centered approaches and are delivered through goal specific interventions in the client’s home, community, classroom and virtually.

Essential Functions
  • Delivers services in-home or in another approved/appropriate community setting and/or virtually as requested by the client. At times services must also be delivered during non-traditional work hours to accommodate family schedules.
  • Conducts biopsychosocial assessments and utilizes evidence-based tools to identify client/family strengths and needs. Assesses for issues pertaining to past and current trauma, domestic violence, discrimination, substance use and/or other factors that could be impacting the individual’s emotional well-being.
  • Develops individualized treatment plans to address symptoms of perinatal depression, other behavioral health conditions and/or relational issues. Also provides such services to other child and adult family members as clinically needed and appropriate.
  • Utilizes therapeutic techniques to help improve problematic thoughts and behaviors impacting clients and/or other family members.
  • Provide consultations and classroom observations for Early Head Start, as required.
  • Refers clients in need of more intensive and/or specialized services to appropriate behavioral health agencies.
  • Maintains client electronic files as per agency policies and procedures. Keeps timely and thorough record of all client contacts, including through DAP progress notes.
  • Uses ETO as electronic medical record to store documentation.
  • Attends case-consultations, trainings and other required meetings.
  • Meets with supervisor regularly for clinical and administrative support.
  • Ensures confidentiality of client records, sharing pertinent information only with the client’s approval.
  • Collaborates and exchanges appropriate information with client Advocates and supervisors working with the clients in order to best meet the needs of the family.

Other Tasks

  • Adheres to the MCC’s security guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information.
  • Attends relevant staff meetings to promote communication and execution of goals.
  • Provides support to new therapists or students as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.
  • Participates in training and teaching opportunities within other MCC programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Understanding of MCC’s mission, goals, and objectives and ability to work independently with a high level of energy and contribute as part of a larger team.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and practices associated with community behavioral health, particularly with women and families.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues facing the community served.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, community partners, clients, and members of the community.
  • Ability to operate a computer and use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and customized databases.
  • Excellent writing skills and effective and accurate documentation of case notes and client data according to established agency documentation procedures.
  • Ability to organize tasks in an efficient manner and follow-up and follow-through with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel in and around the Greater Philadelphia region to conduct in-home sessions.

Experience, Education, and Licensure

  • Master’s degree required. MS in Marriage and Family Therapy strongly preferred. MSW or MS in related field considered.
  • Clinical license strongly preferred: (LPC, LMFT, LCSW, LSW).
  • Certification in at least one evidence-based therapeutic intervention (e.g. TF-CBT, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).
  • 2 + years providing therapy to clients with mental health, trauma and/or substance abuse required.
  • 2+ years providing in-home/community-based services strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with maternal and child health issues required.
  • Bilingual speakers encouraged to apply (Spanish)
  • Valid driver’s license.
