Scrub Tech / Surgical Technician

Duties

  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing instruments for upcoming cases.
  • Assist the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
  • Maintain a sterile field by practicing proper aseptic technique.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members during surgery.
  • Assist with patient positioning and draping.
  • Collect and document data related to the surgical procedure.
  • Maintain Sterilization Logs.
  • Provide patient care while the patient is in the operating room.
  • Assist with wound closure using appropriate techniques under the supervision of the surgeon.
  • Adhere to facility policies and protocols.
  • Understand HIPAA and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality.

Skills

  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Expert knowledge in aseptic techniques and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Strong patient care skills.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Expert Knowledge in surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Familiar with Plastic Surgery procedures.
  • Ability to work with diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and the ability to push or pull-on heavier patients.
  • Preferred to be proficient in suture techniques under the physician’s supervision and willingness to learn.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in a hospital environment or outpatient surgical facility.

Education

  • Certificated Surgical Technologist with a two-year associate degree.

OR

  • Experienced Scrub Technician with one year certificate

Job Type:

Part-time or Full Time

Hourly: $25-$30 per hour depending on education and experience.

Two Operating Rooms in an Outpatient Surgical Facility in Tuscaloosa, AL.

Schedule:

Day shift; Monday to Wednesday 8–12-hour days; Potential for Thursdays for preparation of upcoming week.

Work Location: In person
