Are you an experienced Controller looking for a new opportunity? P&M Steel is hiring this key position of their executive team. As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing daily functions of the finance and administration departments while serving as a strategic partner.

What you will do:

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate the organization's fiscal and administrative functions and performance in coordination with Vice President.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Develop credibility for the administration group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the Board and executives in performing their responsibilities.
  • Evaluate the administrative department structure for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth in coordination with the Vice President.
  • Provide technical/professional advice and knowledge to others within the various administrative areas and disciplines.
  • Develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of financial tracking systems to improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation in coordination with Vice President.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company's value.
  • Improve the budgeting process on a continual basis through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
  • Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter and reports to the Vice President.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports as needed to facilitate P&M Steel's financial needs.
  • In coordination with Corporate CPA firm, assure corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns.
  • Effectively hire, train, develop and manage employees in the accounting and HR departments.
  • Oversee and support the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to monthly financial statements, tonnage report, job closeout report and annual budgets.
  • Oversee the activities of accounts payable, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, department budgets, cash control, payroll processing and total corporate payroll tax compliance.
  • Oversee the activities of the accounts receivable to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, pay applications, credit card management system, etc.
  • Oversee the HR function and effectively manager HR personnel.
  • Monitor and oversee IT software and systems in coordination with Vice President.
  • Assess need for outsourcing activities and functions.
  • Aid in in facility management, telecommunications, data systems, records management and cleaners.


What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business, required
  • CPA certification or master’s degree, preferred.
  • At least 5-7 years of accounting managerial experience, preferred. 
  • Prior HR experience preferred, but not required.

P&M Steel Co. was founded in 1970 by Louis Profilet, a long time steel worker, in the backside of a machine shed in the Industrial Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Working hard to satisfy the demands of a growing steel construction industry, Louis’s new company quickly grew to encompass six buildings on the original surrounding 3.3 acres of land. P&M Steel Co. had earned the reputation of being an industry leader in the region by providing rebar, structural, and miscellaneous steel as well as products such as beams, columns, stairs, and rails.

In 1998, ten years after he began with the company, son of Louis, Tate Profilet, took over operations. In May of 2006, the company saw the opening of its new 50,000 square foot office and production facility which resides on 7.5 acres only 1.5 miles away from where the company began 36 years earlier. Today, P&M Steel Co. is an established full service steel fabricator serving in a 100-mile radius of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
