Job Description

The Supervisor, Medical Dosimetry reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Supervisor, Medical Dosimetry reports to the Manager, Medical Dosimetry, and represents and acts in the place of the Manager, when he/she is not present.

 

  • The Supervisor will coordinate activities between defined areas and provide clinical and administrative leadership and expertise. They facilitate an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among all personnel. They serve as a link between Medical Dosimetry and the Medical Physics teams, as well as a liaison with all other teams in the center. The Supervisor will be the technical expert and the go-to person in their assigned area. The Supervisor has responsibility for the implementation of the vision, mission, plans, and standards of the organization and services within their defined areas of responsibility.

Description

 

  • Maintains clinical knowledge and expertise to adequately supervise dosimetry staff and assess staff competence, including performing all the duties and responsibilities of a dosimetrist with highest attention to detail.
  • Is considered an expert in the treatment planning software systems at the facility, having the ability to train, troubleshoot, and execute the highest quality treatment plans.
  • Oversees staff schedule to ensure adequate coverage to support the clinic, and ensures all clinical responsibilities are covered on a daily basis.
  • Uses timely, effective communication methods with staff regarding conflict, organizational or department updates/progress, and daily activities.
  • Completes 90-day orientation checklist for all new employees and collaborates with Manager regarding development of annual clinical competencies and annual goals for the dosimetrists.
  • Assists Manager in interviewing of new potential dosimetrists and helps develop a plan for mentoring/training new staff.
  • Supports ongoing learning and skill development for all staff through coaching, mentoring, stretch goals, and cross-training.
  • Must collaborate with physician staff from NM as well as strategic partner hospital systems.
  • Participates in all internal Dosimetry, leadership, and multidisciplinary meetings, focusing on continuous quality improvement, and takes comprehensive, detailed meeting minutes as needed. 
  • Manage plan comparisons for insurance approval purposes as well as on imaging coming from outside hospitals/MDs.
  • Ensure all tasks to run an efficient Rounds (Chart or Dosimetry) are covered
  • Ensures all dose file requests incoming and outgoing to outside institutions are being addressed and completed in a timely manner.
  • Pursues and maintains firsthand knowledge of all technical and billing procedures
  • Maintains own patient caseload, as determined by the Dosimetry Manager.
  • Ensures coordination of patients on clinical trials/protocols and any patients who need to be shared/combo proton/photon.
  • Leads clinical adoption of new dosimetry software or tools.
  • Capable to work both on-site or off-site, as determined by the direction of the Dosimetry Manager.
  • Works with other center managers and staff to prepare for ACR, JCAHO, DPH, or other survey events.
  • Demonstrates willingness to work on research projects and submit original abstracts to any of the major professional radiation oncology/proton therapy meetings.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in science

 

  • Experience:
    • 3 years working experience in Dosimetry. 

 

  • Licensure:
    • A current Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board.

 

  • Special Skills:
    • Must possess exceptional organization, communication, problem-solving and system improvement skills, demonstrating the highest attention to detail and thoroughness in his/her work.
    • Able to integrate complex processes and relationships in an evolving role in a diverse workforce.
    • Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple assignments and balance priorities. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
    • Strong written and verbal skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.

 

 

Preferred:

  • Education:
    • Master's degree in Dosimetry or related field (ie. MHA, MBA)
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years working experience in Dosimetry. 

 

  • Special Skills:
    • Previous leadership experience.
