POSITION SUMMARY: The Hospital-Based Recovery Doula (HBRD) provides pre-natal, birth/delivery, and postpartum support services to birthing persons and their families scheduled for delivery of their babies in a designated hospital and connects them with ongoing community-based supportive resources in their home communities as needed. Doulas are trained, experienced professionals who provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to parents before, during, and after childbirth. Recovery Doulas combine lived experience with substance use and/or mental health recovery lived experience and peer support training to provide doula support services to expecting/birthing persons and their partners. The position also provides assistance to doulas-in-training to connect with pregnant/birthing persons to fulfill the Recovery Doula certification of attending three births to practice their doula skills. as well as acting as Care Coordinator for their patients, referring and engaging them with the interdisciplinary care and other support services as appropriate. Clinical supervision of the Recovery Doula is provided by a licensed Behavioral Health Provider.


COMPENSATION: $$24.17-$26.09, DOE

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full Time,  40 hrs/week

Specialist Duties and Responsibilities

Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Responsible for meeting birthing families scheduled for delivery at a designated hospital before, during, and after the birthing process to provide emotional, physical, and informational support.
  2. Educates mother and/or father and/or partner on techniques that increase comfort.
  3. Follows up on all referrals from the designated hospital providers.
  4. Completes a Family Plan of Safe Care with each family and connects with Child Protective Services (CPS) if a current case is already open. The doula will work with families to encourage a proactive relationship with CPS.
  5. Completes a basic screen for resource needs and refers the family to support services in their home community for complete assessment and referral to needed services.
  6. Ensures that mental health and SUD screeners are completed and appropriate referrals to providers are made.
  7. Supports the family with efforts around Eat, Sleep, Console, the 5 Ss (swaddle, side-stomach position, shush, swing, and suck), and feeding techniques for infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)/withdrawal symptoms.
  8. Supports the family in connecting with a Peer Support Specialist in their home community for post-birth recovery support and provides peer support as necessary until linkage to community-based services is complete/successful
  9. Ensures patient charts have required Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) (once per trimester and once post partem) and Perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMAD) screening documentation.
  10. Participates in medical and behavioral healthcare huddles to ensure client is receiving treatment and support.,
  11. Works with the family at the hospital during the labor and birth process.
  12. Required to remain with the birthing person and partner/family as long as needed following the birth to provide ongoing support and to collect data regarding the birth, the infant, the mother.
  13. Ensure that any appropriate recommendations and referrals are discussed with patient and referrals made to other resources for ongoing support.
  14. Provides the family with a connection to a recovery doula and/or Peer Support Specialist in their home community to support the family during the post-partum period
  15. Provides 4th trimester education for partners and other family members, if applicable
  16. Provides information about Motherhood/Fatherhood is Sacred and/or Circle of Security parenting classes offered in the family’s home community.
  17. Provides lactation counseling/referral as needed.
  18. Tracks and compiles data required for completion of grant-related quality assurance/quality improvement projects.
  19. Enters all patient documentation into EHR or provides to Billings Clinic staff as appropriate and HIPAA-compliant.
  20. Tracks referrals and provides quarterly updates to the designated hospital with required information.
  21. Participates in Billings Clinic onboarding training for the doulas for their system.
  22. Adheres to all One Health and the designated hospital’s Policies and Procedures.
  23. Provides oversight to Recovery Doula certification training including assisting with initial 2-day live training and availability to participants for questions and support as well as oversight of module assessments.
  24. Participates in performance optimization and risk management activities as required.
  25. Cooperates and abides by all elements of One Health’s Compliance Program.
  26. Exemplifies a patient-centered care approach to each patient along each stage of the patient journey, while working as a key patient centered team member by communicating individual patient care needs to support the needs of patients served.
  27. Provides exceptional customer service and models the mission of One Health when interacting with internal and external stakeholders promoting a positive image for the health center.
  28. Performs other duties as assigned or required with or without prior notification.


MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 


Education/Certificates/Licenses: 

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Recovery Doula certification
  • Certified Lactation Counselor Certification
  • Certified Facilitator for Fatherhood/Motherhood is Sacred and/or Circle of Security
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred

  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development
  • Behavioral Health Peer Support Certification or eligibility
  • Perinatal Mental Health certification
  • Indigenous Doula training
  • WRAP training
  • Motivational or Solutions-Based Interviewing skills
  • Trauma-informed care training

 

Experience:

Required

  • Two (2) years of sobriety or successful behavioral health recovery.
  • Community outreach and education
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office


Preferred

  • Two (2) years’ experience in community organizing, youth work, ministry, education, or public health.
  • Healthcare or related experience
