Austin Wildlife Rescue offers unpaid summer internships from late May through August 11 (end date is firm and applicants must commit to work through this date). Interns will be able to apply for Judi Campbell Memorial Scholarship after their acceptance into the internship program to cover the cost of pre-exposure rabies vaccinations.

Interns work two to three 10 hours shifts per week (20-30 hours total) at our main rehabilitation center in Elgin TX (111 Elbow Bend, Elgin, TX 78621). Interns learn a variety of skills, including syringe feeding squirrels, tube feeding opossums, hand feeding songbirds and doves, cleaning/set-up of all enclosures, and proper handling techniques for wildlife. Interns will learn proper diets across all species of native Texas wildlife, from fur to feathers to scales.

Requirements:

Must be 18 years or older

Pursuing a degree in a related field of study (ex. wildlife, conservation, biology) AND need or can get class credit for the internship

Willing to work flexible hours including weekend and evening shifts

Willing to work at the Elgin location

Available to work from late May through August 11
