JR SWIM COACH

The Junior Swim Coach is responsible for assisting coaches and swimmers in both swimming lessons and the swim team. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Qualifications:
• Minimum age of 15; required.
• Lifeguarding Certification; preferred.
• CPR and First Aid Basic Course; within the first 90-days.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Essential Functions:
1. Assist in leading practices of the group(s) with the Head Swim Coach through care and excitement.
2. Provide swimmers knowledge to understand and master strokes allowing for movement up through swim lessons and the swim team groups.
3. Actively assist group lessons and/or stroke clinics.
4. Be on deck before swimmers begin practice to greet swimmers.
5. Assist with set-up and running of swim meets as deemed necessary by the Head Swim Coach.
6. Communicate effectively with the Head Swim Coach and the Aquatics Director about daily practice procedures, emergencies and information regarding swimmers and the swim team’s well-being.
7. Provide constructive feedback that will enhance swimmer’s techniques.
8. Maintain structure and discipline within a group setting, while encouraging and promoting student participation in a positive manner.
9. Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment.
10. Actively participate in YMCA events and activities and adhere to the YMCA Core Values.
11. Ensure the YMCA goals of fun, teamwork, sportsmanship and skill development are met on a weekly basis.
12. Assist with maintaining pool areas in regard to equipment, safety, inventory and cleanliness.
13. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor/outdoor locations.
The work schedule will include daytime, evening and weekend hours and ability to travel to all program activity sites.
