Job Description:

Beverage Scientist – Product Development (Beverage/RTD)

The R&D Scientist provides technical expertise in designing custom RTD formulations, product innovations, & product optimizations. Oversees the product & process development from concept through commercialization for current & potential clients. Hands on formulating, scale up, & commercialization support.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Ideation & development of health & wellness focused beverage products.
  • Provide knowledge on process & technologies available for nutraceutical manufacturing.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current trends, technologies, ingredients, processes, &/or equipment within the worldwide dietary supplement & functional food industries.
  • Master the internal formulation systems for development & commercialization.
  • Build relationships with suppliers & partners to access ingredients, education, packaging, consulting, technology, etc that could help bring competitive advantage to our company.
  • Resolve technical challenges.
  • Work with competent Process Authorities in determining sufficient processing needs.
  • Run & monitor bench-top & manufacturing scale-up batches.
  • Generate Supplement Facts panels for a variety of product types based on current regulations.
  • Clearly present & articulate product ideas & innovations to internal & external customers.
  • Light travel (1-3 weeks per year).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Product development process for food & beverage.
  • Beverage manufacturing, specifically under acidified foods regulation.
  • Experience with flavor systems, flavor development, & sensory evaluation techniques.
  • Strong beverage/RTD formulation skills.
  • Firm understanding of ingredient functionality & nutrition.
  • Strong communication skills, written & verbal.
  • Moderate computer skills (Microsoft).
  • Experience conducting plant trials/process validation testing.
  • Familiarity of product shelf-life testing procedures including establishing overage needs.
  • Sound foundation in Food Science &/or Chemistry.

Education & Experience:

  • Four-year college or university degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related degree.
  • 5+ years of beverage/RT
