Fork Union Military Academy is dedicated to the education, growth, and motivation of young men within a college preparatory, Christian, and militarily structured setting. Description

Our instructors are experts in academic subjects and student growth. Regardless of their level, they must wholeheartedly embrace, uphold, promote, and teach in alignment with the Academy's mission and fundamental principles to all cadets.

Preference will be given to candidates with coaching experience in baseball.

Duties/Responsibilities:

As an educator at our academy, your role is pivotal in shaping the academic and personal development of our cadets. You'll provide high-quality academic instruction aligned with our college preparatory curriculum and be mindful of the developmental stages of adolescent boys. Following curriculum guides meticulously, creating a conducive classroom environment, and fostering consistency in and out of class are key. Timely completion of administrative tasks and communication is essential. Collaborating with Athletics and Residential Life, upholding Academy standards, and fulfilling various educational duties are integral parts of your role. Maintaining professional credentials underscores your commitment to excellence.

Required Skills/Abilities:

In your role as a model for cadets, it's imperative to conduct yourself professionally and adhere to your assigned duties. This includes being mindful of the developmental stages of adolescent boys and ensuring their success in both academic and extracurricular realms. Collaboration with colleagues is essential, fostering a continuous focus on personal and collective professional growth. Additionally, familiarity and support for VAIS Standards of Accreditation in instructional practices and faculty activities are crucial. Your proficiency in teaching Upper School English adds to the comprehensive educational experience we aim to provide.

Education and Experience:

Applicants should possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, with a preference for a Master's Degree or higher. Their educational background should include a significant focus on the subject matter they will be teaching, either through a major concentration of study or the completion of 24 semester hours of credit in the relevant content area (or 12 hours for part-time instruction in another subject area). In certain cases, alternative training or experience may also be considered. Prior experience in engaging with young people in a classroom environment is desirable. Additionally, Fork Union Military Academy prides itself on being a veteran-friendly employer, welcoming those with military experience.

Physical Requirements:

The anticipated work hours are subject to flexibility based on the terms outlined in the contract provided. There may be occasions where additional work hours are required, particularly during seasonal events or as per the Academy's operational requirements. Candidates should be capable of climbing three flights of stairs and lifting at least 35 pounds, as well as pushing, pulling, or lifting objects of similar weight as necessary. The role may entail periods of sitting, standing, or squatting, along with prolonged periods of working on a computer or engaging in other physical activities such as kneeling or stooping. Successful completion of a background check and drug testing is mandatory for all applicants.
