Summary: Promotes the physical and mental health of residents by applying the nursing processes. This is done as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and has the goal of assisting residents to assume responsibility for their own health. The nurse coordinates and monitors medical services, including psychiatric and medication services, in accord with the requirements of regulatory agencies and in response to individual resident need.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Plans and conducts training programs to promote employee health and accidents and surgery outpatients.
  2. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and industrial staff nurses.
  3. Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients while assisting with implanting quality goals and facility specific action plans in order to achieve our quality standards.
  4. Records patient histories, performs various diagnostic tests, administers medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with other medical professionals.
  5. Assists physicians during examinations and procedures, operating and monitoring medical equipment as necessary.
  6. Observes patients’ progress and records observations in patient medical records.
  7. Promotes patients’ independence by teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
  8. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  9. Review and comply with Code of Business Conduct and Employee handbook and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  10. Accurately document services in accordance with agency policy and requirements.

Education Requirements: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state-accrediting agency. Must have a registered state license. Current Nurse Practitioner certification in specialty area. Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS). Current CNOR/CRNFA (if applicable) certification.

Experience Required: Minimum of five years of successful clinical practice. Previous experience in the care manager role and coordinating care. Demonstrated ability in the areas of interpersonal relationships, problem solving/critical thinking skills and conflict resolution. Previous knowledge and/or experience with the patient centered medical home practice model.

Other Requirements: Attire is business casual (conservative and professional).

Performance Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

Knowledge of:

  • the medical practice protocols, AUNC protocols in particular, related to scheduling patient appointments and scheduling surgery;
  • customer health education needs through targeted health assessment activities;
  • both manual and computerized scheduling systems; and
  • customer service principles and techniques.

Skills in:

  • communicating effectively with physicians/clinicians about scheduling preferences;
  • maintaining master appointment schedule on computer;
  • communicating effectively with all care coordinators and management; and
  • communicating effectively with patients, making them feel comfortable and welcome within the practice.

Ability to:

  • multi-task effectively, dealing pleasantly and efficiently with multiple phone calls (cell & land line as required), in-office patients, staff, physicians and others;
  • troubleshoot situations escalated to team lead and respond appropriately;
  • communicate calmly and clearly with patients about their appointments or surgeries in all circumstances, including when they are ill or have an emergency; and
  • read, analyze, and interpret human service periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Work Environment: Position is in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled office environment.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Most sedentary with some standing, walking, or reaching. Involves daily and repetitive data entry and periodic stress from the high volume of patient calls/requests. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
