Safety Specialist

We are looking to hire a Safety Specialist to join our Lux Row Team in Bardstown, KY. This position will perform necessary duties that guide the site to achieve and exceed compliance to local, state, and federal safety regulations. Responsible for maintaining the safety processes and achieving this through coordination with department managers and employees to provide a consistent approach to safety concerns. Provides technical guidance and support to operations in the resolution of safety issues. Works with Operations Manager to foster continuous improvement by helping to achieve safety goals aligned to the company’s objectives and communicating progress against those goals. Implements and maintains company practices to assure safety and security of fellow employees and the facilities.

What will you do?

Process Management & Development

• Analyze and process specific job functions and recommend necessary modifications to improve safety performance and maintain proper equipment operation.
• Apply policy as defined by corporate compliance as required by local, state, and federal regulation.
• Investigate and analyze incidents and unsafe acts, conduct RCA and recommend required corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
• Sampling analysis of potential exposures for facility – dust, noise, hazardous chemicals, Asbestos etc.
• Assists in formulating safety goals which are aligned to the company’s objectives, track progress, publish results and recommend proper directional adjustments to meet or exceed each established target.

Training

• Provide/administer safety training for all new and existing employees according to OSHA Regulations. (NFPA, DOT, NEC, NIOSH, etc.)
• Ensure that all programs, policies and procedures are updated and distributed to all team members.
• To coordinate and administer established safety training and ensure that all programs, policies and procedures are understood and properly followed.

Auditing

• Confined Space Permit Audits & Hot Work Permit Audits.
• Assist in Safety Insurance Agency visits and Contractor audits/inspections.
• Conduct internal audits onsite to ensure safe working conditions as well as proper employee PPE adherence and condition; report findings to Operations Manager.
• Conduct monthly Fire Extinguisher and Emergency Egress Equipment Inspections, annual equipment inspections, etc.

Administration

• Facilitate internal and corporate safety meetings to discuss safety results and progress on safety related projects.
• Collect and file safety related records, SOPs, JSAs audits, inspection logs, etc.
• Manage employee training records and facilitate new hire/annual training as necessary.
• Administer LOTO system and equipment as well as Confined Space and HAZCOM programs.
• Compile and distribute monthly safety reports TIR, DART, and DAFWII and annual OSHA 300A log.

Emergency Response

• Serve as Incident Commander for any safety related issue.
• Responsible for Emergency Preparedness and response including fire, severe weather and active threats.
• Coordinate training and certification training on CPR/AED, first aid, and other necessary trainings.
• Assist with confined space entry coverage and pre-planning.
• Coordinate efforts with HR to administer Worker’s Compensation program.

What do you need to bring to the table?

• Bachelor Degree in a safety related field or 3-5 years of experience working in a safety department.
• HAZWOPER, Certified First Aid/CPR, AED, 40-hr. OSHA 511 Course required.
  • Additional certifications acquired through extensive on-the job training or significant relevant experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other Local, State, and Federal regulations is required.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
