About the Department and Position:

The Enhanced Family Foster Care (EFFC) Program supports foster youth in the custody of the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) in New York City. Our EFFC program serves 137 youth ages 0-21+. It supports them with a multidisciplinary team that includes a Case Planner, NYC Comprehensive Health Services Team, Psychiatrist, Behavioral Support Specialist, Family Advocate, Case Aide, Family Team Conferencing Coordinator, Education Workforce Specialist, Employment/Internship and Housing Specialist, Fair Futures Coach, Foster Home Recruiter and Licensor and Clinician. Our therapeutic approach to foster care includes direct access to Clinicians and foster parents trained at a treatment foster care level implementing the ARC framework. This makes a difference because our team approach provides a space for healing while providing skill-building and future-focused planning for youth in our care.

We seek a dedicated Fair Futures Coach to join our NYC Enhanced Family Foster Care (EFFC) program. As a Fair Futures Coach, you will be crucial in guiding young individuals between the ages of 13-26 through the 'Goals & Steps' framework, enabling them to navigate age-appropriate objectives in vital areas such as academics, career development, social/emotional growth, and housing and independent living.

Your primary responsibility as a Fair Futures Coach will be to build deep, authentic relationships with the young individuals we serve. By meeting them where they are and developing a foundation of trust, you will help unlock their potential and empower them to achieve their academic and career development goals. We are committed to supporting our young people every step of the way, even after they age out, ensuring they have the resources needed until they reach 26.

How you get to use your skills…

  • Build relationships with up to 18 young people to develop individualized academic and career development goals and take measurable steps toward their goals
  • Collaborate with the treatment team, tutors, specialists, and foster/birth parents, as needed, to help youth achieve their goals and ensure their overall well-being
  • Attend and play an active role in Family Team Conferences (FTC's), Interdisciplinary Treatment Team Meetings (TTM), and Parent to Parent Conferences
  • Document all contacts with youths in the CARE4 Platform and Program's Electronic record System
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor or leadership

Personal Development Job Duties Can Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Ensure young people who are aging out can access and maintain stable, affordable housing and build independent living skills; help young people move in and obtain furniture upon discharge
  • Assist young people with their housing and career development goals while and after discharge up to the age of 26.
  • Help young people maintain their housing by supporting independent living and life skills such as budgeting, obtaining a bank account, and advocating with landlords if needed

Academic Development Duties Can Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Assess the fit between the young person and their current academic setting and help them transfer into a better-fit high school or high school equivalency (HSE) program if needed
  • Visit the young person's school/program and build relationships with school staff, review transcripts and academic data, provide educational advocacy, and discuss progress towards graduation/HSE obtainment
  • Expose students to post-secondary pathways, such as college and/or accredited vocational programs, starting in the 9th grade (or as early as possible)
  • Connect the student to the Education/Workforce Specialist to apply to colleges, opportunity programs, and all forms of financial aid, funding, and scholarships

Career Development Duties Can Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Assist young people in obtaining working papers, if needed
  • Conduct career exploration activities with young people
  • Connect young people, as needed, to agency-based job readiness and/or internships based on the young person's interests, strengths, and academic/vocational plans

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, 40 hours a week
  • Must be able to flex schedule as needed
  • On-Call hours required


  • Bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience working with at-risk or system-involved young people
  • Foster care and/or significant experience working with vulnerable youth in a professional manner preferred
  • Must be able to work from a strength-based, trauma-informed, youth development lens
  • NYC ACS or private agency child welfare experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management, organizational skills, and attention to detail; Ability to troubleshoot, advocate, and navigate obstacles where there is not always a clear-cut pathway
  • Open to learning how to use and interpret data to inform decision-making
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in team settings and build relationships with external partners
  • Ability to use Motivational Interviewing techniques
  • Knowledgeable about youth resources and services
  • Ability to facilitate monthly youth groups
  • Ability to work well with people from many cultures, including recent immigrants, non-English speakers, and LGBTQIA+ children
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
  • Willingness to travel
  • Valid NYS Driver's License required
