Position Summary: Lab Technician

This position requires the applicant to perform all steps necessary to manufacture, sterilize, inoculate, seal, and shake bags of mushroom media for the growth of our specialty mushrooms.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bilingual preferred but not required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of biology and microbiology preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process to make sterilized mushroom media bags
  • Must be able to follow aseptic inoculation methods


Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

This individual will be required to:

  • Wear clean clothes and practice good hygiene.
  • Work in an aseptic environment and be required to wear face mask, gloves, hairnet, and Tyvek suits always.
  • Inoculate sterilized growing media using aseptic technique with spawn and then seal the growth bags. After bags are sealed, they are mechanically shaken to evenly distribute the spawn. The sealed bags are labeled and prepped for shipment to another location for spawn run.
  • General labor and tasks as assigned.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of biology and microbiology preferred but not required
  • Prior experience inoculating sterilized mushroom media is a plus but not required
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently
  • Ability to perform tasks that require bending, kneeling, climbing, walking, and carrying
  • Ability to communicate with Supervisors and Managers
