Job DescriptionJob Description

Core Role:

Working under the direction of the department supervisor and a skilled senior mechanic, you will be responsible for setting up machines with high precision. You will also conduct initial inspections of production pieces before handing the equipment back to operators. Training for this role may take between 6 to 12 months, during which you will learn all necessary setups and become proficient with various press machines. Strong communication skills and the ability to learn quickly are essential.

Key Duties:

  • Interpret and work from technical diagrams, mechanical schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Acquire hands-on experience by collaborating with seasoned mechanics to master the maintenance and repair of production machinery.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with assigned machinery and automated packaging units.
  • Maintain high standards of performance, aiming to reduce downtime and improve production efficiency, product quality, and waste management.
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced mechanics, offering technical advice and sharing expertise.
  • Train new mechanics while maintaining your own assigned responsibilities.
  • Develop expertise in operating multiple machines within the area.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting abilities.
  • Solid understanding of the company's machinery and operational processes.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions from senior mechanics and team leaders.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently bend, carry, lift, push, pull, reach, stand for extended periods, walk, and lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Must navigate the entire manufacturing facility, which covers up to 530,000 square feet.
  • Flexibility to work off-shifts, including overtime, sometimes with short notice.
  • Adherence to safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, when operating or servicing machines.
  • Proficient reading and writing skills are required.
  • May need to obtain forklift certification as required by the company.
  • Must have a personal set of standard hand tools.
  • Frequent interaction with various machinery, tools, and equipment is necessary.
  • Must be able to work in environments with potential exposure to hazards, including injuries to hands, arms, feet, or back.
  • Tolerance for continuous exposure to loud noise, dirt, and fumes within OSHA regulations.
