Responsibilities:
Responsible for all duties and responsibilities associated with a Grove Developer II
Interpret Machine Manuals to write Macros and aid in advanced machining operations
Troubleshoot machine malfunctions, adjust, and then test to ensure machine is performing to
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Standards
Work with Programming to establish and optimize proper cutting parameters
Recommend new work holding solutions for complex work pieces. Review/assist in design, testing
and implementation.
Establish cutting technology and probing/tooling/fixturing/work holding methods
Determine and communicate Methods and Sequence of Operations to all internal customers.
Utilize verification software to ensure program integrity and first piece acceptance.
Assist quoting setting standards for machine and process capabilities. Cubic inch removal
calculations, number of operations, and required stock values to safely machine part. Grain
structure meets engineering requirements.
Troubleshoot complex work holding issues
Set and author standards for order of operations
Set and author standards for probing
Set standards for cutting tools, RPM, feed rate, axial and radial depth of cut
Set standards for cutting tool testing
Set standards for measurement of cutting tools
Project Management on assigned Onboarding activities
Always be pursuing and implementing new technology.
Provide ongoing feedback to Engineering/Quoting/Quality departments
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision
Qualifications:
• Basic understanding and application of 3D printing technologies preferred
• Advanced understanding of work holding design and function strongly preferred
• Understand AS9100 or other Quality Management Systems strongly preferred
• Competent to run and capable of training others on operations/processes
• Must have full understanding of all aspects of machine manufacturing. i.e.: 3, 4, 5 Axis, Material
Types, Tooling, Fixtures, Fixture Design, Part Holding Techniques, Advanced CNC Programming (NX /
CATIA)
• Must easily identify cutting tool geometry for aluminum, steel, hard metals
• Must have broad knowledge and ability to setup and utilize tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars,
fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
• Must have a working knowledge and experience with VERICUT or similar software that specializes in
CNC simulation, verification, optimization, and analysis software for manufacturing
• Must have advance knowledge and application of GD&T and Machine capabilities.
• Must have demonstrated Project Management skills including but not limited to: Budgeting, Cycle
Times, Adherence to Schedule.
• Must have demonstrated track record of Optimizing Processes and Programs
• Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Must have experience using measurement tools (e.g., caliper, micrometer, height gage, etc.)
• Must be able to read G Code
• Must have functional understanding of CNC control system variables and parameter settings
• Must be able to perform machine recovery
• Must be able to handle and manage multiple machines
• Must have a minimum of Five-year Milling Machine experience
• Must have High School Diploma, GED, or able to demonstrate basic written, reading, verbal, and
math skills
Skills
A fully qualified Applications Engineer will have the following skills:
Basic computer skills (e.g., loading programs, Factory Trak, accessing dispatch list, Word, Excel)
Blueprint reading – dimensioning and tolerancing
Advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Accurately complete required paperwork (e.g., Work Orders, Tie In Books)
Select the correct tool and media to blend / edge break a machined part
Finish machined parts to meet customer specifications
Forklift certification
Knowledge in use of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments.
Instruments should include but not limited to refractometer, calipers, ID and OD micrometers,
depth gages, indicators, and scales
In-process inspection
Identifying and controlling nonconforming product
Fixture and part loading in CNC machines
Cutting tool setup and insert rotation/replacement
CNC Milling Machine operation
Machine autonomous preventive maintenance
Basic Machine troubleshooting
Crane/hoist certification
Ultra C-Lean
Basic Machine recovery
Root Cause Analysis
Problem solving
ECR Process
Proofing Log completion including time studies
AS9100
Mentoring
Onboarding
Vericut
Intermediate NX/Catia
Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt
