Job DescriptionJob DescriptionHIM Tech (Release of Information) is the (hospital’s) designated contact for requests for release of patient health information. This position is responsible for reviewing all requests, scrutinizing for compliance, and appropriately responding to each within the mandated timeframe as required by state and federal law. Assures all release of information activities and job duties are done in compliance with regulatory HIPAA guidelines. Additionally, adheres to releasing the minimum necessary protected health information to those with a right and on a need to know basis. Processes and keeps accurate records of all release of information transactions, for ease of retrieval in response to request for accounting of disclosures. Provides exceptional customer service. Assists in backing- up HIM technicians and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Thorough knowledge of State and Federal laws regarding release of protected health information.
  2. Training in California Consent Law and HIPAA Privacy/Security
  3. High school diploma or equivalent
  4. Previous medical records experience preferred
  5. Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  6. HIPAA Privacy/Security Certification preferred
