Peer Recovery Specialist

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Behavioral Health, and as a part of a multidisciplinary team the Peer Recovery Specialist will provide peer support services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to persons w substance abuse and/or mental illness problems. Service provision will focus on working with clients to enhance their recovery, through individual or group services. He or she will be responsible for all relevant patient documentation, such as, but not limited to, SBIRT screening. He or she will be the on-site resource for any relevant recovery information and community resources. He or she will collaborate with other involved parties including families, friends, and other community providers (all under clinical supervision of an LCADC, LCSW-C, LCPC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform SBIRT assessment for PCP, Dental and Behavioral health providers, and document in the EMR.
  • To provide individualized, ongoing guidance, coaching and support.
  • Facilitate substance use disorder groups.
  • Provide case management for patients around connection to community resources.
  • Assist in developing formal and informal community supports.
  • Assist the person served in increasing social support networks of relatives, friends and/or significant others.
  • Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
  • Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.
  • Assist/coach recovering persons develop their own plan for advancing their recovery; for “getting the life they want.”
  • Recovery Planning -- facilitate (via personal coaching) the transition from a professionally directed service plan to a self-directed Recovery Plan.
  • Promote self-advocacy by assisting recovering persons to have their voices fully heard; their needs, goals and objectives established as the focal point of rehabilitation and clinical services.
  • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering person’s goals and interests.
  • Support connections to community based, mutual self-help groups. Link individuals to appropriate professional resources when needed
  • Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the agency.
  • Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and developing strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidate should have a working knowledge of substance use disorder resources in Kent, Queen Annes, Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester counties.

QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Peer recovery certification (CPRS)or willingness to be certified. At least 3 years in full recovery and 5 years lived experience.
  • High school diploma required; some college preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and or Creole a plus
  • Narcan administration trained.
  • Experience working in a non-profit behavioral health agency, FQHC, or outpatient medical facility
  • Experience and confidence identifying and implementing evidence-based practice
  • Understanding of CCHS’ mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients in all circumstances
  • Must be able to work individually as well as within a team.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Positive and supportive attitude toward the CCHS organization, staff, and behavioral health program success.
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to relate well with persons from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to prepare simple correspondence and reports in Microsoft Word and summarize data in Excel spreadsheets.

Salary Range: negotiable depending on experience and certifications.
