Basic Function:
The Paralegal and Compliance Specialist (“Paralegal”) position is responsible for providing legal, compliance, and risk management support under the direction of the General Counsel and Compliance Officer. The Paralegal manages projects, reviews, and prepares contracts based on templates, assists with the creation and maintenance of policies and other corporate documents, performs legal research, and other duties as assigned and as described below.
This position encompasses the provision of legal services, reviewing and proofreading documents, coordinating multiple aspects of legal, compliance, and risk management projects, and understanding and overseeing deadlines. This position will receive and prepare confidential documents, and, thus, requires a commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, attention to detail, organization, and critical thinking.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; a Paralegal certificate from an accredited organization; and two years administrative experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree; two years’ experience with healthcare-related laws and regulations such as HIPAA; two years’ experience in healthcare compliance and/or risk management; two years’ experience drafting legal documents and policies.
Basic Functions:
- Assists the legal and compliance departments in maintaining risk management and compliance programs including HIPAA-related activities
- Maintain schedule and coordination of FamilyCare’s compliance and risk management program and related activities
- Assist General Counsel in scheduling for all legal, compliance, risk management, and HIPAA privacy matters
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of, and collaboration with, FamilyCare’s General Counsel and Compliance Officer, provide the following services:
- Gather and input related documentation for policy research, contract management, claims management, and other risk, compliance, and legal matters
- Gather information responsive to discovery requests.
- Maintain FamilyCare’s contract management system, including, but not limited to, uploading contracts, contract data, and maintaining user profiles.
- Maintain FamilyCare’s incident reporting system
- Perform research and analysis as needed
- Proofread documents, including, but not limited to, policies, contracts, and reports
- Maintain General Counsel’s task list and schedule
- Provide reports and updates on changes in law and regulations
- Work closely with the Human Resources department to assist in the Staff Training Program
- Assist in administration of risk management, compliance, and legal projects and programs and maintain communication with other FamilyCare leaders and staff regarding those projects and programs.
- Develop and deliver educational risk management and compliance training programs
- Conduct company-wide risk assessments to identify areas of non-compliance
